The universe started as a result of the big bang, the big bang came from a singularity,so where did the singularity come from?,it don't matter because wherever it came from had to come from something else and that means the something has to come from nothing in the beginning.
which breaks down the laws of science .As something can not come from nothing.
which in turn means that everyone are chancing their arm with idea's that cannot be proved.
Its is all BS.
PLEASE POST YOUR THEORY ON HOW IT ALL STARTED,WHO KNOWS YOU MAY BECOME  FAMOUS.
and by the way ,was there Gravity in the singularity ,if so the singularity would not expand as the gravity that's in  the total  universe crushed into a pea would let nothing go from its grasp,so no big bang if there was gravity.so I guess gravity must have invented itself some time later. And one final point,Anti gravity only comes from gravity so the gravity would have to work first for the anti gravity to invent itself.Laugh
SO,there must be a GOD that always was and always will be.=solved.

GOD=FORCE OR POWER OR ENERGY .(not a bible god)
this is the type of god I talk about.but it controls the universe.

just after reading that in all directions outside our solar system as far as known knowledge is concerned we can see galaxies as far as 43.5 BILLION lightyears in the distance past.(that's as far as we can see)
earlier today I learned that the distance of one lightyear is about 6000 TRILLION miles.
we live in a big place.Shocked

Steady State Theory is mostly dead in the water but it can explain a lot of what we now see. I think Fred Hoyle (who created the Steady State Model and coined the term "Big Bang") calculated it took just 1 atom to be created in each Galaxy per year to explain the current expansion.

As to the expanding Universe, what's to say we aren't living in an oscillating Universe where it expands and contracts without the big crunch or an endless expansion?

There are no easy answers, you could say a creator created it but then you have to ask, who created the creator? You just have to keep asking questions and fitting the answers into the model that fits best.

I read half of Fred Hoyle's biography and he was a very smart man and critical during the war effort. He was also pretty stubborn and to his dying day he refused to acknowledge the Big Bang Theory.

You should never just discount a theory unless you can prove it wrong, Hoyle's attitude was wrong but then again his Theory hasn't been proved wrong. I quite like it but I'm no mathematician. The Big Bang seems to fit everything we observe at present.

Only 500 years ago most people thought the earth was the centre of the solar system and the cosmos. We have moved on enormously since that time but why should anyone think that science has all the answers now?
Inventing a god to explain what we don't yet know is what ignorant man has always done and is just plain lazy.
Report brassneck • January 25, 2015 7:21 PM GMT
no,i am not inventing a god,i am just using the word god as my name for the first thing that came into being out of nothing.my main point is that at some time in the distant past there was nothing ,and then that nothing became something.
As regards everything coming out of a tiny singularity I can get my head round that, because if someone got a barrel of atomic power they could blow half the solar system away in 2 seconds,so that's sort of easy to understand in my mind.

I can't explain it Brassneck and I don't thing anyone can. Does anyone know there was nothing before the universe we inhabit? Hawking thinks that matter and an equivalent amount of antimatter are being created all the time which then recombine immediately to nothing. This supposedly happens everywhere. The fabric of the universe is space-time so no universe means there is neither space nor time.
At present it has not been possible to create a mathematical model of a singularity as the equations resolve to a string of infinities. Does this mean that our idea of what happens in a black hole is flawed? Probably.

There are lots of unknowns at the frontier of science but that doesn't mean that they will never be known.
I am not an academic and my scientific training ended more than 40 years ago but would love to hear from someone who is currently involved in this research.

so a singularity is nothing other than a man made word and it is also a get out clause to say "we really don't know how the universe started so we use the word singularity because the very foundation of science laws state that  something can not be created from nothing,so if we don't use the word singularity or god science goes down the plug hole.if we use the word god we offend half the population on earth so we are forced to use the word singularity to protect science.
In other words there is no such thing as a singularity."Grin

ok,so this is what I reckon what happened. first millisecond after the big bang the light would have trapped first and would be out and away before everything else.at that millisecond the race was over because nothing travels faster than light so we have the expanding universe up front and a ball of light in second place with everything else racing in third place.
this means that at the end of the expanding universe there is nothing but light,so why can the scientists not say "well,if you go to the edge of the expanding universe you will see nothing other than the light of the big bang.
So if it was possible to stand outside our universe you would see nothing other that a big shining sun.
But if I can work this out the real question is what are the scientists doing saying "we don't know what the universe edge is like and we  don't know what our universe looks like from the outside.and these guys get 5 grand a week and are called professors.

The mathematics breaks down at a singularity but that's not to say someone, someday won't solve it. It seems that for every new answer, 10 new questions arise. All we can do is keep working on the problems.

And I heard the best reasons ever for money spent on pure science. Rosetta and Philae came in for some criticism saying the money would be better spent on hospitals ect. The majority of the money spent on pure science is not spent in space. It's spent by individuals here on Earth who go about their daily lives just like you and me. The www was invented to make communications easier between Universities, it was pure science but is now a multi billion pound industry. Who knows where the next big discovery will come from.

Money spent on pure science is money well spent.

Oh yes, let them begin the beguine, make them play
Till the stars that were there before return above you,
Till you whisper to me once more,
"Darling, I love you!"
And we suddenly know, what heaven we're in,
When they begin the beguine

All very interesting, but how fast is Warp speed.
Report Make my hay • January 26, 2015 8:18 PM GMT
Warp factors are converted to multiples of c with the cubic function v = w3c, where w is the warp factor, v is the velocity, and c is the speed of light. Accordingly, "warp 1" is equivalent to the speed of light, "warp 2" is 8 times the speed of light, "warp 3" is 27 times the speed of light, etc.

brassneck can i reccommend a book to you - its called 'Why does E=mc squared' by Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw. It explains exactly what happens in big bang theory in detail and goes into the physics in quite an understandable way. It helps if you know a bit but you certainly don't need to be a professor to understand it. I think you'd enjoy it!
