Last night I was driving along VERY SLOWLY because of the hideous weather as was everyone else thankfully! Coming to an uphill climb 2 cars in front started skidding all over the place. I then felt my car slipping to the left, it hit the kerb scraping the tyres / alloys. I then steered it to the right to stop the car mounting the pavement and it then started to skid so I pulled up the handbrake which stopped it.
Only had to drive a short distance to reach home but felt the steering was not right but didn't know if it was the conditions on the road making it feel this way.
Today, went out to check tyre pressures (which were fine) and steering problem was very apparent. Driving on a straight road I was having to turn the steering wheel to the right. In addition to this the ESC light is permanently displayed on the dash. Tried resetting it as per manual instructions which worked for 5 seconds or so but then illuminated.
So, any ideas as to what might be wrong with the steering and does it sound like my ESC failed last night?

Needs tracking re-aligned assuming you haven't damaged the steering column , depending on how fast you hit the kerb 
take it to an ATS type of place.
Ask them to check the tracking - usually free.
If it needs adjustment is not that expensive.
Do not have a free brake check - You will be there all fooking day with bits and pieces all over the floor and the quote will be worth more than the car.
Do not go to kwik Fit - you have been warned!

most places won't just check the tracking for you , they either do it or they don't , but is only a £20 job at the very most , new cars with all the fancy computers are actually worse than older simpler cars
It's still under warranty with Audi as it's not even 2 yrs old yet but they can't look at it until Wednesday.
No one from the service dept were there today. I'm going to ring them up monday as I'm not happy having to wait until Wednesday.

Try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes (yes that long) and reconnecting it. The light may be a false positive due to your prang.
get the tracking done at a local garage for £20 mate , it's surprising how badly it can be affected so simply , gl
they'll soon tell you if there's more serious damage as at least you're paying them something !
if it's only slight you should be alright , but if it's seriously Juddering !!! it's probably more serious damage , hth
pulling to the one side is nearly always alignment and as McM says a cheap, quick and easy fix.
Can i suggest if the road hadn't been gritted, send a letter to the council

Had I not skidded to the left I'd have gone into two cars that had skidded to the right of me.
I got the wife another set of alloys with winter tyres, they must work because the dozy bugger hasn't had a prang yet.
I think winter tyres should go on steel wheels not alloys -cheaper too.
cheers that's interesting the centre never said anything, worth looking into.
she checked with a big national today mano, winter tyres are fine on alloys
