LOUISVILLE, Ky. —The family of boxing legend Muhammad Ali hopes he will be home from the hospital in time for his 73rd birthday on Saturday.

Ali, who has Parkinson's disease, has been in an undisclosed hospital this week getting follow-up care for a urinary tract infection, a spokesman for the family said Thursday.

Bob Gunnell said Ali is in stable condition and doctors indicated he would be released Friday.

Ali was initially released from the hospital on Jan. 7 after an 18-day stay.

I've always considered "treat every day as your last" to be particularly poor advice.

If every day you quit your job, told people exactly what you thought of them, mainlined heroin and spent all your money, surely you'd run into problems before too long.

It was the boxing great's second hospital stay in the last four weeks.

Ali family spokesman Bob Gunnell said Ali left the undisclosed hospital and is back in one of his homes.

The former heavyweight world champion and his wife, Lonnie, have homes in Arizona, Michigan and in his native Louisville.

Gunnell said Ali is looking forward to celebrating his 73rd birthday on Saturday with family and friends.

Ali was taken to hospital late last month with what initially was believed to be a mild case of pneumonia.

Doctors later determined Ali was suffering from a urinary tract infection, not pneumonia. That hospital stay lasted until last week.
