Seems that nurse has taken a turn for the worse which doesn't seem fair somehow, but what I can't understand is why there is non of the drug that was successfully given the last Brit who contracted it?
There is some debate as to how effective it is but surely not having it is the worse of all options.
I see dave been on Twitter though working the PR side of things like normal.

Might want to secure the drugs rather than trying to get public support lad.

Cos they thought that it wouldn't be a problem. Just a couple of sloppy checks required and you're fine! Or so they thought. Sad

Ebola creep up on em?
1 person catches it here and that's the last of the treatment for it.
If the drug didn't exist that would be one thing, but they gave it the last guy seemingly because it was the best option, and it could well have worked.

Somewhat undermines the noble act of the individual who risk their lives for others.
As soon as I heard dave rolling out his political PR on Twitter it just made me feel dirty.

I think the drugs don't "cure" as such, they just help support the sufferer and it's largely up to the strength of their immune system etc to actually fight it off. Two people given exact same treatment one may die one may live. The male nurse who had it AFAIK didn't get into a particularly serious condition, he's a lucky man. Attacking Dave (Cameron?) for saying a few innocent words on twitter about it when the whole thing is pretty much f*ck all to do with him says more about how you than Cameron..

Give over.
The man is a career politician who gets told what to say by the computer, whenever a politician speaks there is a contrived reason for it and in this case it's about trying to give the perception that he gives a phook.

Whether the drug does or doesn't do much, the individual is doing plenty more than the stay at home politician in fighting Ebola, so they deserve all the assistance they can get.

They have run out of the drug because it was only an experimental drug that had not been approved for use. Therefore the manufacturers had only produced a small amount for testing.

Now, because there is no established drug for Ebola, most countries rushed through emergency approval to use the experimental drug, and now there is none left.

Even in africa not everyone who gets it dies. I think the figure on the news the other day was 60-70%.
I'm sure it's like a lot of diseases and some people are just naturally better at fighting this one off than others.

why go there in the first place don't understand why she just wanted to go for 4 weeks what is the point now the british taxpayer must pay out again

if the poor woman dies surely its time to say,if your coming to this country and you have spent time in certain parts of west africa
you have to have a quarantine period and get the all clear before coming, this disease seems worse than rabies so the rules to keep
it out should be even more stringent

Ebola has been around for many years but until the latest
outbreak there was no demand for a 'cure' No doubt many
companies are now working on treatments but it costs a fortune
to develop a new drug and usually it takes years to get the
O.K.

10-15 years, but it can be hurried along a little in extreme circumstances.

In truth, there are more lives to be saved, and more money to be made, in fighting other illnesses, notably HIV and malaria, but there are others. Governments need to take proportionate steps to any threat. They cannot protect us all from everything.

Have an appropriate plan for the consequences of an event, and the likelihood of it happening. If you extrapolate the hysteria about various threats to people's lives, perhaps we should devote as much as possible of our resources to working out a way to prevent an asteroid strike. It's going to happen sooner or later, but we could save x lives in the meantime with spending on road safety.

Ebola doesn't scare me much (difficult to transmit), flu does a bit, SARS does a lot because we barely understand it at all.

I don't know what all the fuss is about quite honestly.

As a leading legal forumite told us on here a few years back, he "felt safer in Africa" than he had in Britain for ages. Not even the rampant HIV pandemic in South Africa could prevent this wincingly 'progressive' gentleman from relaxing in, erm, Sun City.

Make your way over to the east end of London, where the once eradicated illness, Tuberculosis, has been welcomed back to UK shores by the luvvies.
Report alun2005 • January 4, 2015 4:49 PM GMT
Yes, I think Tuberculosis arrived back in the UK airborne by birds, or brought by pixies (the evil pixies with the green hats, not the nice ones with the red hats obviously), or something like that.

Alun

Would that be the same birds and pixies that are forever spitting on the pavements in East Ham (NEWHAM) where once upon a time, a wincingly 'progressive' gentleman reckons he tickled the ivories on a pianoforte, in a shopping mall.

Until a while later, it was discovered that he was in fact, in Vicarage Fields Mall, in Barking (before that area went downhill)

And he immensely enjoyed a magnificent repast in a Newham Indian restaurant in Brick Lane.

Except that Brick Lane is an 'upmarket area' in Whitechapel, which is in Tower Hamlets, and not Newham.
