I know a chap, a millionaire pub and restaurant owner, who is passing himself off as a Knight of the Realm.  He definitely isn't really a Sir.  He is in our little circle of friends and we only found out about this hilarious snobbery when one of us caught sight of his driving licence.

The thing is, how has he managed to get the Sir bit on his licence?  Can you just change your name to have Sir in front of it?

He tried to pass it off a joke licence, but we found out he had been to a Mercedes garage and introduced himself as Sir _____  _______!

I had a mate who's wife brought him a Lordship one year for Christmas. Needless to say we ripped the piss out of him for a long time!

I know, we're ripping the piss out of our mate now and he's clamming up about it.  The funny thing is that he's absolutely minted, got a Bentley, big house etc, but he's a council estate lad just like the rest of us.

cant see why anybody would want a real one let alone a pretend one.

Some type of attention seeking disorder i would guess your mate has

My mate was a bit of a fcuk up when we were younger but he somehow managed to be earning £100,000 a year when he was 21. Now he's part of the "green welly brigade" and we mix in different circles.

Unless he,s on a scam of course Grin
Report Torquemada • December 31, 2014 5:16 PM GMT
He's obviously done it to impress his posh mates and never thought we'd find out.  What I want to know, though, is surely there is some sort of legal repercussion?

I bet he never gets told there are no tables at a top restaurant
Report Torquemada • December 31, 2014 5:17 PM GMT
Or just some sort of ego trip.  He definitely went to the Mercedes garage (driving up in his Bentley) and told the staff he was a Sir.

Just realised my embarrassing error with YOUR instead of YOU'RE.  Sorry about that!

Just realised my embarrassing error with YOUR instead of YOU'RE.  Sorry about that!

Read back through your thread a fair few times and, unless I have somehow missed it, the embarrassment is worse for declaring such,
when it was never a "faux pas" in the first place!

A Very Happy New Year to all....Love

The error was in the title, Aunty.

I feel a bit better about my mistake now, it's like it has become Aunty's error by proxy.

You can call your self anything you like provided you
don't use it for fraudulent purposes.
Report mememe • January 2, 2015 12:08 PM GMT
You can call yourself whatever you want ... just start - no need for any legal stuff.

But not if you're trying to impersonate for gain etc, like medical Dr.

Hope this helps, Lord Sir mememe

Lord Sugar isn't a real lord is he? Just an angry, moody midget from the East End who paid the Labour party half a mil.

Yes of course you can call yourself Sir, Lord or even King - but do it by deed poll to make it legit.

eg Millions of people call themselves Muhammed after the prophet. A prophet trumps king, lord or sir any day.

Emden,
(or is it Lord Emden of Betfair Forum)?

Sorry to split hairs (well not really) but deed poll stuff is just rubbish - put about by greedy lawyers (like have your will done by us, or have you slipped on a turd recently and hurt your toe, sort of thing).

Lawyers are fiddling scum - I should know as I'm an accountant (well was) and we always act in our client's best interest and only charge a fair amount for our time.

HTH Lord Sir mememe

If it can be done cheaply, me and my mates are all talking about becoming sirs as well.  Taking the mickey out of our mate then will be priceless.
