If twitter can't moderate comments before it goes on live, like on skynews bbc boards...Then time to get rid. |

very poor post rob
The BBC reported that the driver had two passengers in the truck with him at the time of the crash. They are likely to be key witnesses in the police investigation. It is understood that the driver remained in hospital overnight. |

We always gave the bin men a bottle of wine each for xmas - saved us putting the bins out all year long. Canny bloke my dad.

xmoneyx...
Just saying that if he had a british sounding name and/or wasn't of possible moslem appearance, then you can pretty much discount an act of terrorism. I didn't know there were 3 in the cab at the time. |

no prob rob
TRIBUTES were today paid to a pensioner couple who died alongside their granddaughter in the Glasgow bin lorry crash. Jack and Lorraine Sweeney and 16-year-old granddaughter Erin McQuade, of Dumbarton, have been named online by relatives as three of the six people killed in yesterday's George Square disaster. It is thought the trio were out shopping together when they were all struck by the out of control truck as it careered down Queen Street and crashed into the Millenium Hotel at around 2.30pm yesterday. |

The hand brake may have been on the driver's right hand side.
By:
They need a dead man's device on accelerator....like trains have a handle.
By:
i mentioned this last nite but i find it incredible that the bin lorry kept in a fairly straight line for all that distance.
If there were folk in the lorry with him then surely they would have tried to get the lorry onto the road rather than continue knocking folk down on the pavement |
By:
seems strange to travel so far , did it just brush through lamp posts , sign posts etc
By:
3 people in a van and not one person could stop it ripping down a street
By:
after the first incident the the co drivers could have maybe tried to get it to opp side of road just before the greggs
although anything past that would have been the massive ice rink where it would be jam packed not blaming anyone just tryin to make sense of it |
By:
The Twitter troll has handed himself in. Probably for protection. His address was posted online and there's probably quite a few Glaswegians who'd like to have a 'quiet word' with him.

By:
Pug, how about a paddle attached to the back of the wheel that you have to grip while steering. You can brake and accelerate normally, but as soon as you let go of the paddle, the vehicle stops sharp and cannot move until the handle is pressed again.
Would that work? |
By:
SRory that was for Leopard.
By:
in sure there quite a few folk from scotland who reside in his area treble
sure they will have a word or 2 when they see him |

I don't think a silly, misguided comment deserves a public lynching imo. Has everyone on here who has heard a joke via email or text about a recent tragedy thought the person who sent it to them deserved a lynching? Just off the top of my head I can recall getting jokes about Paula Yates' death, Matt Lucas' partner's death and that girl in austria who had been found after 24 years locked up in a cellar. That was without even trying. I don't think the people that sent me those jokes deserve to be lynched. What punishment do you think they, or this guy, deserve?

By:
In the immediate aftermath of a tragedy like this people are very sensitive. Hence the phrase "too soon".
By:
just because these things happen rob doesnt make them acceptable
there were a few sickening comments on the clarke carlisle fred last nite what if that happened to someone close to you? Would you be so understanding? |
By:
Very strange that all the deceased have been named yet the name of the driver remains a mystery and as yet we have no idea what actually caused the "accident"..definitely something not right here.
By:
Awful tragedy. I heard that the driver suffered a heart attack. Is that not correct?
By:
heart attack not confirmed
and his identity not disclosed yet , no one is saying feck all what actually happened |
By:
what about the 2 with him in the cab
By:
still no news yet on the drivers
somethin not quite right i feel |
By:
they where quick enough to tell us who the driver i the france thing was
surprised no pictures of the driver have emerged as plenty folk would have had phones with them to record the scenes |
By:
chaser am i seeing things or did the side of the bin lorry have the name NEIL?
