I think all council lorries are fitted with governors to prevent high speeds.

And conserve fuel.

Turners of Soham, Cambs. run a huge fleet of 40 footers, all with governors on them, which I think are set at 55 mph. as I've seen one go faster than that.It can cost a fair bit of time if you get stuck behind one on a 2 lane road. And if you're near Soham and get stuck behind a convoy, you can virtually go to sleep until you get to the A14 or the A11.

Unless it's automatic I'd guess the max speed even if he floored it wouldn't be very high in the sort of gear he'd be in, in a city centre, but it might have been screaming like a forumla 1 car of course.

Guys driving these things should have a medical every year.

They probably do, just like taxi drivers over 60 I think, but who knows, maybe this driver had his last week and a heart attack this week. You just never know sometimes.

Such sad news, I hope it's not a false flag.

I remember the news about Lockerbie breaking, midway through an episode of Minder, same numbing feeling for those involved.

Why is it always Christmas? Such an awful time of year for bad news.

Rip the departed.
