Still playing the hard man at 78. I've heard it's a top movie.

A racist Korean War veteran living in a crime-ridden Detroit neighborhood is forced to confront his own lingering prejudice when a troubled Hmong teen from his neighborhood attempts to steal his prized Gran Torino. Decades after the Korean War has ended, ageing veteran Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood) is still haunted by the horrors he witnessed on the battlefield. The two objects that matter most to Kowalski in life are the classic Gran Torino that represents his happier days working in a Ford assembly plant, and the M-1 rifle that saved his life countless times during combat. When Kowalski's teenage neighbor (Bee Vang) attempts to steal his Gran Torino as part of a gang initiation rite, the old man manages to catch the aspiring thief at the business end of his well-maintained semi-automatic rifle. Later, due to the pride of the Asian group, the boy is forced to return to Kowalski's house and perform an act of penance. Despite the fact that Kowalski wants nothing to do with the young troublemaker, he realizes that the quickest way out of the situation is to simply cooperate. In an effort to set the teen on the right path in life and toughen him up, the reluctant vet sets him up with an old crony who now works in construction. In the process, Kowalski discovers that the only way to lay his many painful memories to rest is to finally face his own blinding prejudice head-on.

Gran Torino is excellent but Unforgiven is really an absolute masterpiece. Thing is about the latter is that I've seen it so many times I practically know the script off by heart so won't be watching tonight. Clint Eastwood is indeed a legend I.S. I couldn't agree more.

I liked him in "Any Which Way But Loose" and "Bronco Billy", plus the first Dirty Harry film is a classic.

"Unforgiven" was pretty much a masterpiece western. But Gene Hackman almost stole the show in that one.

Out of his spag westerns I think I like "The Good The Bad And The Ugly" the best because I felt Eli Wallach as Tuco really added to it.

Clint my all time fav actor.
Report anfeild December 22, 2014 11:41 PM GMT
Yeah Clint has some body of work. His westerns are just classic's. The Dirty Harry series is excellent. He is very rarely in a bad film. Anyone not seen it Mystic River is a great film. Off topic is hard to find decent films recently but watched the flight last night decent watch.
Report Eeternaloptimist December 23, 2014 12:23 AM GMT
What I like about the films Clint directs is he is comfortable with silence and he gives the story room to breathe. There's far too much razzamatazz and noise signifying not very much at all in a lot of other films. Gran Torino is one of his best for me.
Report anfeild December 23, 2014 1:03 AM GMT
Film making as an art has nearly gone. Clint is a dying breed. It's hard to get good films these days. Just the way it is. Studios are up against it. They are just looking for a hit.
Report pawras December 23, 2014 8:41 AM GMT
They openly admit it's all about global bums on seats, therefore that's why it's all CGI first and plot second a lot of the time.
Report therhino December 23, 2014 9:52 AM GMT
Mystic River is a classic. Sean Penn in that movie is incredible. No one mentioned Million Dollar Baby? You can't talk Clint without mentioning that movie...

Genius. great actor, better director. Looking forward to seeing American Sniper as well.

A fantastic film.
Report Mikael D'Haguenet December 27, 2014 6:41 PM GMT
It's a good, not great, film. Compared to Unforgiven, it's sh!te though.

Unforgiven 10/10
Gran Torino 7 or 8
Dirty Harry 5, at best.
