I'd be devastated if anything happened to my muttley. We have always had dogs ever since I can remember, it's just awful when you come home and they aren't there anymore.

My fella is the biggest babe magnet I've ever known. In the park the chicas fall all over him. I get a bit of kudos and attention by association, I'll take what I'm given these days.

if you can handle 2 and you think your dog can ,they do say if you can judge when ones got say 1 to 2 years left get another then so they overlap each others lives

My greatest sympathies. I know what it feels like to lose a beloved pet. I had one of my cats for over 15 years and had to make the decision to have it put out of its misery. It was a final kindness not to let it suffer but it felt that my heart had been pulled out. You will not believe it yet but he will live on in your heart and the pain will go slowly and will turn to acceptance providing wonderful memories of your time together. Your dog loved you as much as you loved him, and be reassured that you gave him a life that many deserve but do not receive. Be grateful and contented with your time together and your mutual love; a time and a love that very few pets receive.
My best wishes and sympathies.

Had god knows how many pets since I met Mrs CMAT years ago. Birds, rabbits, chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters and fish. Every time one dies she cried her eyes out, but they all left me unbothered.
13 months ago we got a dog, and I never knew I could care for an animal that much. She got stung on the foot by a wasp or a bee some months ago. I was proclaimed a hero for getting a magnifying glass and finding the sting in her fur.

My parents have let many dogs go (a few prematurely imo) they have 10 dogs at a time (no joke) but tbh I just see this as personal greed , my old man's the type that'd put a bullet though their head if needed , just as he did to me personally
all I'd like is one dog to love as my own

Still remember holding my beloved mut in my arms as the vet tried to inject the poor bugger in three legs before finding a vein in the fourth. All the time my dog was looking me straight in the eye.I sobbed my fcuking heart out when he'd gone. That was 30 ago.

Had a Jack Russell.....14 year old....started acting oddly....had to be put down....thinking back....may have been neighbour, who worked at GCHQ, possibly fed the dog rat poison 'cause he poo-ed on his grass verge once too often.

Had one dog put down. A lovely staffie that I had from the age of 4 to 19. Long lived old fella. Trustworthy beyond doubt and would have given his life for me and my little brother. When I walked out of the vets with his collar and lead in my hand, it broke my heart and I cried like a baby all the way home. Was even worse when I had to tell my 6 year old brother that he'd gone to doggie heaven. Still have his ashes on the side.
RIP Buster. Never forgotten.
Sorry for your loss Hitman.

They become family - but they're usually nicer than blood relatives - we are their pack. My last dog was a bit of wimp - well-honed survival instinct - but she died bravely. Hope I do as good. Which is a roundabout way of saying we're all going to die too. Make sure you've made arrangements for your pets. It's a two-way street.

Had to make that decision recently myself. Gut wrenching carrying him in knowing those big trusting brown eyes would be gone in five.
Even though i held out against the vets advise for two weeks i still felt like i let him down by eventually going ahead with it.
The right thing to do but i still felt like i was a bastard
