Percy Filth,
If I were blind and needed a cab, I'd simply tell them that I needed a cab for me and my dog when I booked.

You see how easy it is.

To say he didn't have room is taking the pi$$ and contemptuous

Then if any of the drivers didn't like dogs they could send another one to pick me up.

Dr C, I thought you said you wouldn't want to use a cab after a dog had been carried?

Think of the poor mans Christmas, Dr. C may be right on this one.

Yes but I wasn't blind when I wrote that.

I nearly had a Burton councilor in tears some years ago when I told him I was going to buy a pot bellied pig and take it for walks on a harness.

It takes some brass face when you depend on others to look after you to live, to take someone to court for not looking after you and your dog as well.

Think about it.

Lfc. "Think of the poor man's Christmas"...Had to have a bit of a grin over that!  GrinGrin

On a more serious note. I can't imagine why any of you would surmise that the dog would sit on a seat! It goes on the floor with the command 'Flat'. And there it stays until told otherwise.

Probably because you've taught him to. That wouldn't be part of a guide dog's training, though.

I'm a dog lover, but I'm the first to admit that they smell and leave their hairs everywhere.
Some owners are very aware of this and make sure their pets are bathed regularly. Others do not.

Depriving someone of a possible livelihood simply because they can't bring themselves to have a dog in their cab seems to be putting dogs before people.

We don't need laws like these, they multiply out of control.
For instance; where's the law to compel people to declare a dog when they book the cab?
Yet if blind people had done that as a matter of routine, the ruling against taxi drivers carrying blind people's dogs would not have been needed in the first place.

Why don't taxi drivers keep a blanket in the boot so that it can be used in these situations.

No need lg. Guide dogs are trained to sit at their owners feet when travelling by car, taxi or bus.
The taxi driver, and crippen, are seeing a problem that doesn't exist.

Better tell that bloke who's been fined a couple of grand that there isn't a problem carrying dogs.

That should cheer him up no end.

Should taxi drivers carry air fresheners as well to get rid of the stench that dogs leave behind?

Then there are the fleas to consider and the mites if they're suffering from the mange.

You must be some dog owner DrC. Laugh
BTW they should carry air fresheners to get rid of the smell of some so called humans.
By:

Well that's the point akabula.
They can refuse to pick up smelly people, but they're forced into carrying smelly dogs if they're with someone who's blind.

Those parasitic mites that dogs carry when they've got the mange can be passed on to humans.
So if you start to itch after taking a taxi home you'll know where it came from.

pmsl that's some level of paranoia. I am reasonably confident that the blind don't walk around with diseeased guide dogs.
By:
Dr Crippen
When: 19 Dec 14 15:17
Well they would know the dog was diseased until it started to scratch itself more than usual, and by then the mites would be well established.

Some pictures here of dogs with mange, so you'll know what to look for before you let a dog sit on the back seat of your taxi:

If the taxi driver was acting from a purely practical point of view I would have some sympathy, however if it was a moral or religious stance and even had the hint of any such nonsense then the fine was not excessive...perhaps imprisonment!!
