I had never heard of the traitor John Amery until listening to Radio 2 today, it was such a bizarre story that I'm surprised no one has made a film about him. He was finally captured in Italy by Alan Whicker !!! ps The Germans had a 'holiday camp' near Berlin where they would send Allied POW's they thought might turn traitor. http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/letters/rear-window-john-amery--the-traitor-whom-britain-politely-forgot-1572716.html
Rumour has it that when Pierrepoint entered Amery's cell to carry out the execution, Amery extended his hand and said "I've always wanted to meet you, Mr Pierrepoint, though not of course under these circumstances".
