Oyster card is for use within London, the maximum fare per trip is £7.20. He saved 21.50-7.20=£14.30 per day, I think.

Oyster cards only about 10 years old afaik,
at about 3.5k a year it don't add up to 43k |

I'd read that the amount he owed was significantly less than the 43k, but he payed that figure up front to avoid further hassle. It's now being reported as that's what he actually literally owed. (Not defending the guy, just pointing it out).

Regardless of the fact of whether he's rich and can afford it or not, it's still pretty harsh that he can't work in his industry ever again. He's bunked the train ffs, not killed someone

It does seem harsh but on balance, I'd prefer whoever is in charge of my savings or pension to have a pretty clear sense of right and wrong.

Being debated on LBC atm. James O'Brien is sticking up for him. The first caller was of the opinion that he should have been banned. JOB said, "look me in the eye and say you've never dodged a fare". Well, personally, I haven't. |

Someone rang in and said he avoided paying £2.10 - something to do with his Oyster card. He said it was a genuine mistake but his solicitor said he had to plead guilty.
He was fined £350 and has a criminal record. Wow. |

I think if you're caught without a ticket on the 'overground', you're charged the higher of the full standard single fare or a £20 penalty.

I thought if you don't touch in and out on the London Underground, they charge you the maximum fee equivalent to the price of a daily travelcard zone 1-9 which is what 8,9 quid? I would imagine there are a lot more fare dodgers on the overground as there are a lot of unmanned entrances and open barriers especially in suburban stations, one of the reasons why they got rid of most of the bendy buses commonly known as the free bus as so many got on at the second set of doors without touching in.
When people are caught without a ticket at all don't they just give fake details anyway? |
