could you really turn 50 p into over a million in one share deal? And would any bookie give you odds of over 2 million to one in any one bet?

You'd need to buy or at least get hold of all 40 of these:The 1943 copper-alloy cent is one of the most enigmatic coins in American numismatics — and reportedly the most valuable Lincoln penny of all. Just 40 of the coins — probably created by accident, on copper-alloy one-cent blanks left in the presses in the wartime years when pennies were converted to steel — are known to exist. The first 1943 copper cent was sold in 1958 for more than $40,000. In 1996, another went for a whopping $82,500. But those sales pale in comparison with the latest: this week, a dealer in New Jersey sold his 1943 penny for a staggering $1.7 million.

My original thought was to buy 60 of the 1915 FA cup final programmes for an old penny each but sadly these are only worth about 12-15k a pop. I guess you could get some of them autographed if you went to the match. And the condition would be mint

I might have said the past 100 years but happy to extend the dateline to include that one by Flowemyth. I never thought of something like a stamp. Great stuff.

Judging by the small number of replies it looks like not many other people share by hobby of daydreaming going back in time in a De Lorean and thinking of different situtions and places where I could stop off at.

I thought it was a great idea for a thread.

My first thought was to go back to 1890 and buy The Red Vineyard at Arles by Van Gogh, which is the only painting he ever sold. Was surprised to see it went for around a $1000 US by today's prices. I think there are many famous artists who were starving artists at some point and would have sold their now 'in the millions' paintings for the price of a meal and a bottle of wine.

I'll try and think of some more...

I'd buy nothing as I'd be arrested for attempting to purchase goods with non existing monetary value that is about 55 years away from being introduced into circulation

I wouldnt go to far back because of the ripple effect lol , pop back to yesterday ,put on a 50p tricast on the 2-00 ling ,that bags nearly 50 notes then id put on the 6 or 7 correct scores on the footy from last night , about 10 slips should do it dotted about all my local bookies ,2 or 3 quid at a time , then I,d grab a nice kfc ,then I,D pop back and make the Mrs watch footy with me for the first time ever ,show her during the games whats possible etc and reap all the rewards that go with it , sounds good to me and Id tell none of my mates when in the bookies either ,fcuk em ,most owe me money anyway lol , pretty much zero chance of any ripple effect you can get with time travel ,,,he he
