People who fly English flags are racist.

This is a quite extraordinary blanket generalisation. On what grounds would these people automatically be racists?

During recent World Cup and European Championship and football competitions, a number of my closest neighbours had the English flag prominently displayed outside and inside the windows of their houses. A Chinese hi-tech entrepreneur who lived next door to me, and a black car mechanic around 6 doors or so away BOTH had such flags on display during those tournaments, and well after England's participation.  Who exactly are these fine neighbours of mine being racist towards please?

Several years ago I lived in Cornwall, and the Cornish are great ones for flying their St Pirans flag. However when England are playing football or during the rugby world cup, there are English flags everywhere. Mebyon Kernow hate it. In a local newspaper I read a letter from a separatist who called the flag "the butcher's apron" and said the flag was culturally confusing for the Cornish. Crazy But it was just people from all walks of life showing their support for the national team. One guy who lived near me was a football mad Sikh who had a Cornish accent. He had flags all over his house for any comps and I wouldn't describe him as racist. Although tbf he wasn't a fan of Islam.

I didn't know her. I used to live in Fife Road in a tower block, but rarely used the shop there. I used the one in Hermit Road a lot, and now and again, the one opposite the Red House. I used to bung the cashier in there when I won and could always get a back price of a few shows on a gambled horse if I wanted one. She did well when I had a big bet on Reference Point some years ago, it was 5/4 when I got 13/8, how she never got bollocked I don't know. Laugh

The worst cashier to have in your shop was the Laddie's bird Maureen Brewer. She was a relief cashier, and wherever she went, there was a shortage in the other till,  the one she wasn't working on. Came to my shop for a job once, as soon as she left I threw her application form in the bin.

I had a nice result on a bet I facked up on footie in Hermit Road years ago.

I had originally gone in there to see a bloke about backing a dog at the Wick, then I was off to an ATM to get some money, but he never showed up.

I had to get to work and had no time to study horses, so I picked out 7 footie teams for a tenner acca, which was  all I had in my pocket in cash. I went to work and got home at 5-30.Sitting on the khazi (as you do) with the door open listening to the telly to check the results, I got the 3rd and 5th matches wrong, I screwed up the ticket, and when I got to the kitchen I said to my Mrs 'Useless bastards!!' and threw it in the bin. Shocked

She said 'You checked that quick, check it again' and got it from the bin. How lucky can you get???? I had only listened to the results and not checked my ticket.

Instead of 5 homes and 2 aways I had ticked of all 7 homes. Iirc, Man Utd got turned over, and so did Spurs, both well odds on. I had both home teams.

I worked out what I had going on to Sunday's match and it was nigh on £700.

I think it was Liverpool v West Bromwich. I had a bet on West Brom and the draw, so I won, whatever the result was. Liverpool won, and when I got in the shop on Monday he said 'Was that a mistake' and laughed.

I remember laughing and saying 'Why, don't you pay out on fack ups?'  I bunged him and the cashier who was in. Whether they gave a tip to the afternoon cashier I have no idea.

Was the shop just down the road from the Red House a Laddies when you were in Dennis's, or did Oxlow Bookmakers still have it?

For CMAT.........

Lexicographer Eric Partridge derives khazi, also spelt karzy, kharsie or carzey, from a low Cockney word carsey originating in the late 19th century and meaning a privy.[58] Carsey also referred to a den or brothel. It is presumably derived from the Italian casa for house, with the spelling influenced by its similar sound to khaki. Khazi is now most commonly used in the city of Liverpool in the UK, away from its cockney slang roots.[59] An alternative derivation is from Christopher Chippindale,[60] who states that khazi derives from Army slang used by expatriate officers of the British Empire who took a dislike to the habits of, and steaming rain forest inhabited by, the Khasi people of the Khasia hills on the northern frontier of India.

generalizing of course  ,   but the poorest for me would be a toss up between Housing association estates - they take on a lot of misfits -( generally the new builds of the 00s )  then i'd wager the areas or pockets around the inner cities (typically run down terraced houses) which are now ghettoes for the classes that have been either evicted  from other suitable decent properties and now these properties  serve as a cash cow  for  cash landlords who are only to happy to take the gamble on these folk. Gamble being the opertaive work  esp now payments are made directly to tenant .

A lot of council housing has  been bought (at least on the better estates ) and has thus been gentrified to a degree .

i will also add Hank that whenever i walk through the nearest council estate  there is no shortage of disposable income on show  - flash cars ,caravans .motorhomes ,boats, jet skis - new conservatories and pagodas tacked on  ,giant movie screens -

the thing is, in the US they generally have a big pole in their garden like Pokermonster. Hanging it out of your window from a pair of paper weights is just wrong.

There's a big pole in the garden a few doors down from me but I don't think anyone's ever put a Union Jack up there. His name is Jarek and I think he lives in the shed.

that posh labour bird mp ridiculed it because it was the national flag - no objections when a lot of labour councils were flying the palestinian flag earlier in the year in support of hamas
