Derek and Clive were underrated commentators.

Here they are in action shouting them home in the Durex handicap at Newmarket.

peter alliss a shocking omission

Midway through the BBC's final round telecast from the British Masters, Ken Brown remarked that wayward Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano needed Countdown star Carol Vorderman to help work out his yardages.

"Carol Vorderman," mused Allis, dreamily. "Watched her on TV the other afternoon and got aroused."

After several seconds of dread-laden silence, the veteran broadcaster put his speechless colleagues out of their misery by adding: "That's seven letters ... not bad for a lad who left school at 15!"

And for those of you without a colour television that's the ball next to the pink.

Cracking stuff.

Sid must be 1.01 for the most votes.

I don't watch football, rugby or cricket, and rarely watch athletics.

Gave up watching F1 years ago.

I don't pay a lot of attention to sports commentators tbh but I always loved the commentaries on the old extel service in the betting shops in Glasgow.
Was a guy called John Copeland. Not sure if he did the whole of Scotland.
I'm sure anybody who punted then will remember this guy.
