Yes, but so is love. Come to think of it, so is buying a car in a lot of places, as it is cheaper to mix buses and taxis.
He might do a bit better if he waits till after Christmas, and if it is not a ring. Is it an engagement ring? If your friend lives in the middle of nowhere, then maybe a trip for them both to London to walk down Hatton Garden, say, because window shopping amongst literally thousands of rings in shop windows might make buying the £5,995 one seem a bit less urgent -- the world is not about to run out of diamond rings, so they can afford to wait. I expect that on Youtube there will be any number of guides to buying diamonds and what to look for (the 4 or 5 Cs) so they can be educated consumers. |

Strange thing if somebody gave me a bag with 10 rings in value from £1 to £50000 and I could have any for £150 I would not be able to choose the valuable one.Consequently you have to trust the seller but the mark up is astronomical

It's not even an engagement ring, it's just a shiny piece of bling she just has to have at any cost. Madness.

She must be the ride of a lifetime to get a 6K rock after only 6 months, no other explanation for it. A general rule of thumb is that as soon as you walk out of the shop it's worth about 30% of the sale price.

How much does he earn? |

I don't know, Mr E, but it won't be a great deal. He works in a hotel kitchen.

An old golf worth about a grand.

He's an absolute Prize Plonker then

I'll admit to being biased, I think all jewellery is an obscene waste of money.

I am a pawnbroker by trade...........
new jewellery mark up is ten fold especially at christmas. your mate could get an as new item for about 1/3rd of that cost no danger depending what it is of course...........if you get the 4cs(5th is certificate) for me and the gold carat ill cost it up for what its really worth |

By:
Thanks for the offer, sir, but I don't really want to interfere that much.
|

Pokermonster, tell your girlfriend you're not buying her a ring, is she leaves because of that then that would be doing you a favour.
|
|
By:
It's undoubtedly worth a fraction of the six grand, though, of course.
|
|
By:
These girls are all the same nowadays they seem intent on just rinsing guys for the maximum ASAP
It's the fked up society we're brainwashed to accept & Truth be Told will she really Respect him More or Less be being such an absolute pushover ![]() ![]() |

She's not my girlfriend, SH. I wouldn't ever spend a lot of money on jewellery, I don't like it.

I guess Love is a Gamble anyway so GL to him

but she won't budge from this particular ring in the high street
that is the worrying part of the post, I could never trust a woman who thought like that. My wife even offered to pay half towards hers. |
|
By:
I bet her reaction would have been priceless if you had accepted her kind offer.

OPs m8 is a prize mug. £6k after being together for 6 months, beggars belief.
Trying to buy her affection? It will all end in tears. |
|
By:
£6k on a ring and he works in a hotel kitchen!
How long did he take to save that money or paying on credit? Either way he must have lost his mind. Is she a bit of a looker? |
|
By:
He's putting it on a credit card which probably means the ring will end up costing him ten grand after he's paid all the interest off!
|
|
By:
at worst tell her his credit card carnt take a £6k hit.
So put it on hers and he will pay a bit each month, if she f offs then he wont have to pay the rest off :) |
|
By:
Putting 6 grand on a credit card when he works in a kitchen is complete and utter insanity. I wouldn't do that for letitia Dean let alone Anna Kournikova.
|
|
By:
slippy you would need more than 6k for a ring that would fit over her fat knuckles
|
|
By:
Bit unfair to blame the young girl here without knowing the full details. So the girl knows her boyfriend has not much money and is insisting on a ring costing £6,000? More likely the boyfriend has been acting the bigshot and insisted he gets this particular ring for her.
|
|
By:
it's not even an engagement ring though , next he'll be buying her £900 pairs of shoes while she sleeps with his mates
![]() |
|
By:
he most certainly cannot afford it in his financial position
she won't budge from this particular ring Translation.. Hes a mug in love Shes out to screw him before he comes to his senses If she gets the ring she will be off She must realise he cant afford it |
|
By:
if she's really after the cash, she'd surely want an antique or something at auction that will return more than a third of the asking price.
as you say though, the real issue is why would you want to put someone you love in so much debt for something so trivial |

6k is just something to brag to her mates about ![]() Hes a mug in love Shes out to screw him before he comes to his senses Well said though cruso I'd like to know what She does for a living Pokey ![]() I'm assuming neither of them have many assets , but if she ever gets around to renting a place with him seems the type to have Flash 50" wall telly & 3k Sofa above Kettle & Microwave on her shopping list ![]() |

"girls aren't that clever" What remote sexist planet do you come from?

Today it's a six-grand diamond ring, tomorrow it will be a Mercedes 500 SLK. We've all been there, right?
