Disgusting creature, but as a Scots lawyer, I strongly disapprove of the abolishment of the double jeopardy law. Opens the door to a system where government can keep trying you until they find you guilty. Something inherently wrong about that.

I believe there has to be new compelling evidence that has come to light for there to be a 2nd trial.

DNA is usually quite compelling imo.

That's what's wrong with our laws, too many rules to protect the criminals.
As Wesdag said there has to be compelling new evidence for there to be a second trial. A real lawyer would know that.

I know it didn't apply there but it should have. The prosecution accepted a plea to a lesser charge.
A seven year old he sexually abused and then strangled and all he served was 6 years.
He should have been done for murder rather than culpable homicide and locked up for life.
These two lassies and whoever else he killed would still be alive today if proper justice had been served.

Prisoner rehabilitation is fine, but punishment and vengeance is more important to me.

The likes of the Howard League who constantly campaign for the rights of criminals and seek to reduce the numbers in prison.

They could reduce numbers by executing a few.
