Changing XMas Tree lights. Having to go through them 1 by 1 checking to see if that bulb had blown, you were snookered if 2 or more bulbs blew at the same time but light's were expensive back then and not a throwaway commodity.

i remember food issues ...'the sugar shortage ' when people grabbed bags of the stuff from supermarkets even though just one would last you months . and vesta packet meals . needed about 20 pans to boil the various sachets up and end up with dry tasteless rubbish. and angel delight .

Half Time results marked out on wooden signs around the football ground and the A match, B match, C match etc. corresponded with the list of games in the match programme. This was also when all Premiership / 1st Division (as it was then) games were played on the saturday at 3pm.

was going to say postal orders until Clydebank did. Used to enter comps, send in letters and cartoons to comics as a kid. The prize was nearly always a postal order, which for me really took the edge off the glory.

I seem to remember a lot of smog from coal fires and a brown shellac coating (sticky) on all the post war furniture made of balsa wood. Very grim up north. I think the shellac film was a mixture of cigarette smoke and chip fat.
Cardboard Suitcases too. Everyone had them. pvc raincoats - women got see through ones. old bakelite radios that used double d batteries. transistor radios. sweat trap Kagool coats. these are a few of my favourite things.... kipper ties. |

Boys Brigade marching on a Sunday Morning. I did that, only so I could play for the footy team the following Saturday. No church attendance and no marching meant you were ruled out. Hated it. |
