Has anyone had to have these for their kid(s)? My boy keeps getting ear infections, and unfortunately is more prone to them with his trach. His ENT Dr didn't think he needed them before, but now I think it is probably time. Any issues with them?
I remember my friend's son had them fitted for glue ear. i think it was only temporary and they weren't much of a problem. This was years ago mind, so they are probably even better now.

My boy has had ear problems all his life( 8 years ), he wears hearing aids in both, well he should but he has had infections meaning generally one ear has always been treated with drops and he wears just the one hearing aid, obviously in the other ear. This swaps and changes as the ears are treated. He has been on long long courses of antibiotics which to me seem self-defeating and they have failed to clear up infections.
He`s had the grommets fitted a few years back, they obviously work their way out naturally and seem fine for glue ear.
With the infections came cysts, these have been surgically removed. However the infection penetrated the mastoid bone, leading to a mastoidectomy in one ear and the other ear will need operating on as well in a few months time.
Once the infection gets into the mastoid bone it can get very complicated Hank, it`s like a honeycome and infections are hard to shift.

Just to add, the grommets are painless and as a patient you don`t even realise they are there, as i mentioned as the eustachian tube grows through maturity the grommet tubes drop out.
