I think we have owls locally. I heard an owl-like sound on two consecutive nights walking from station to home. Autumnwatch owl noises tonight no help - it was a compendium of noises owls make when they are not trying to sound like owls.
I read about bird shazam not being ready yet
Can any forumites toowittoowoo in phonetic text for me please?
I assume you know the 'tawittawoo' sound is both birds - the female calling and then the male.
The female's noise is like a harsh squeeky keee wik and his is a flute-like whooo, tailing off a bit in pitch at the end.
To my ears they sound like unrelated birds, the female noise is like a hawk's (probably doesn't help) the males lower register and more full and round sounding.

We had some strange noises about a week ago in the middle of the night. I was told to go downstairs and see if the dog was OK, but I reckon it was owls.
