Women's world squash champion is on BBC news  moaning about her male compatriot gets more, firstly two completely  different tours & why should sponsors dig deep to pay what they pay men, surely its supply & demand, more people will watch men's sport, its more popular ffs !
Even the women tennis players are moaning the sponsorship is not there like it is in the men's game, maybe it has something to do with Women's tennis is so friggin boring Cry

Unbelievably the BBC have been devoting air time on radio5 sport extra covering womens football. .Try as they may the BBC and SKY will never get the general public interested in minority sports such as womens football and  womens cricket because quite simply its total crap and an inferior product.

Generally, even women are more interested in men's football, cricket and rugby.

The only women's sports that I can think of that attract widespread public interest are tennis and athletics.

Serena would not win a set off anyone in the men`s top 200. Yet the women play only best of 3.

How can they demand equal pay when they are doing less work?

The answer is quite simple: There should be no sexual discrimination allowed in any sport. If they want to compete, then it should be on an equal footing. This would vastly improve their standard of competition (or as say today, competetivenessnessness!)
No quarter is given in horse-racing or bike racing (motor bikes, that is).

Steering a horse or vehicle is a million miles away from using only your own physical ability against a man.

Women can`t even compete in darts or snooker on an equal footing. They are miles behind in ball sports. They should be grateful for a separate tour which enables them to make a good living.

I say give them the choice.

If they want to compete on an equal footing for the prize money let them.

If they want to compete with other women let the market decide the amount of prize money.

Ideally, in tennis they should have completely separate tournaments.  The market can then decide how much prize money should be.  But unfortunately, in the slams at least it seems convenient to combine the two events.

Ask 1000 tennis fans you can have tickets for either the men's or ladies final at Wimbledon, how many will say men's

The spread for that would be  960-970

I think I would even buy at 970 Crazy

Women's golf is run independent of the men's game and does a pretty good job of generating revenues.

Womens tennis is quite successful in its own right and I'm sure the top players could make a very decent living even if their slams were completely separate to the mens

Not sure what comparing each genders football world cup is suppose to  highlight other than how unloved womens sport is.

Yes, there is a lot of money on the womens tour.  Fair enough.

But for them to expect equal pay for Wimbledon etc is ludicrous using any measure.

this goes beyond sport, the whole gender pay gap issue is a myth. they don't do the same jobs or work the same hours.

A few years ago female pool players in America, lead by Jeanette Lee, successfully negotiated far superior prize money and sponsorships than their male counterparts.

Some of them, yes.  Mainly, though, they were just far better organised than then men and never sold the corporate sponsors short.

Jennifer Beretta and Ewa Mataya were very attractive, both making fortunes in sponsorships.  I think Ewa even appeared in Playboy.

Women are not interested in sport except for a small minority

If they are discriminated, it is they themselves that do it

Sport is for men, it is to channel their aggressive instincts

Although nobody stops woman do they?...even though sport is also entertainment nowadays, you cannot force people to watch this rubbish

Yet another load of lies from feminists as usual

Jack 11.25...Brilliant post but far too intelligent I'm afraid.

Pumphol 11.29... Bullseye. A potential 5 set, 4 hour epic or an hour of grunts and screams....

All comes down to the simple fact that unless you are able to put bums on seats, don't expect to get paid handsomely.

what gets my goat is sky sports constantly go on about sportswoman of the year, never heard of them and i dont really care.

Why dont they say have a seperate channel for womens sport with its own subscription, and see how many would pay for it.

Then decide if its really worth it.

Agree maleuki

The fairest is to pay men/women in proportion to the viewers they attract

I was disappointed they did not have a women's wet tea shirt competition in the Olympics

But I suppose that does not qualify as a sportSad, or women's naked mud wrestling, surely that is a sport

I think I would watch those
