I haven't got time to go to HB for my sweet n sour sauce, Lidl for my meat and veg and just get the best offers at Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda

Tesco is finished. The public have got wise to the phony offers and marketing tricks.  The shops look tired now and they cant rid themselves of the enormous overheads they've acquired from trying to take over the world.

Maybe. Imo, there isn't enough room for Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrison's

The one near us has got a roof on the car park and it's the nearest big supermarket.
They've got a fantastic range of stuff and a wet fish counter.
What I do object to are the professional beggars with their collecting tins who put the bite on you as soon as you enter the store.
I tell them to get out of my way, but I feel like telling them to go and f'off.

I don't like the chuggers though who try to stop you in the street and get you to sign up to monthly payments.
They can get lost.

Tesco don't make the Blue Dragon sauce. They sell it because their customers want it. Is that so difficult to understand? It is a one-stop shopping experience. If you don't like it go elsewhere but FFS stop f***ing moaning about it!

Home Bargains is a brilliant store. From time to time they have all manner of very much cheaper stuff, though I tend to avoid some of the stuff they have as standard. They manage it because they spend nothing on advertising.

I rarely venture into Tesco. It's been a money-making machine for years, opening new stores with money which would have otherwise had to be spent as tax, avoiding tax, squeezing local opposition out of business before increasing prices, squeezing smaller suppliers until they can no longer afford to supply anyone. SO many marketing lies too - like all the big supermarkets, with the 1/2 price (nearly always nearly doubled first), the end of aisle offers which aren't, and so on.

There's a (been open 4 years) Tesco express round the corner - open 6.30am - 11.30pm. Within 3 miles there are FOUR huge Tesco 24 hour supermarkets, so presumably the deliveries can be made en route to these. Yet the prices locally are massively more than in the bigger stores for the same items. There was a useful, reasonably priced corner shop and a newsagents just opposite, both now out of business.

For the record, they don't necessarily sell what their customers want, they sell what makes them the most money, what computers and marketers tell them people want - So basically top brands. The range in Waitrose is far greater and local shopkeepers would, given the chance, always buy and supply what customers want not tell them what to buy, which is what Tesco does.

I fecking hate Tesco.

Got an A3 drawing pad today, high quality cartridge paper, 30 sheets for £2.29...in Millers that would be £8.99.

49p for a big bag of English Maris Piper spuds - £2 in Tesco for the same weight of tasteless, watery Scottish spuds.

Study sums  it up nicely .

Greedy feckers trying to close everyone down  regardless of whether  the local store they put out of business was of true value to the community or not  .

Yeah, Study really went to town there.

There is a new one of those in Romford, cannot believe the price of some of their gear.

I don't give a fack where my food comes from.

I don't do the shopping.

It mainly comes from abroad

I love Tesco. I just press 'repeat' on my shopping account and Hey Presto! there is another week's shopping done. It's brill!

I must be missing something, where are these home bargain stores, never heard of them, read on here a while a go people conversing about farm foods, never heard of them either

Tesco sandwhiches are terrible, cheap and manky looking, no where near value, Sainsbury's do much better one's.

 

"Home Bargains" are brilliant. They have the largest store in Selby and the range of products is huge.

Also most of the stock is on permanent offer, and not here today and gone tomorrow. Next visit I will post some of the prices.

They only have a small selection of fresh and frozen but just a couple of examples for now re "Bulmer's Woodpecker Cider"in 2 litre bottles,
and marked as £3.35 are £1.00 cheaper at the till.

Heinz and Baxter's soup is £0.69 which is £0.20 cheaper than Morrisons.

As you go in there are some brilliant offers which I guess are there to get you in the mood!

No. In that situation I would decline to bet. Unfortunately, bad things happen when one declines to eat.

Big can of chick peas at HB...25p...so...it's okay to seek value when gambling...but it's a bit daft to apply the same principle to shopping...?

Just how many miles should I travel to find this HB shop before I declare it financially non-viable? Do they deliver? Do they provide any service at all beyond the fact that they are cheap?

HB again.....I have a 630ml bottle of "Heinz - Golden Mark" soy sauce that was 65p.

If that isn't a bargain I don't know what is!

Daughter is watching the pennies as she will be on maternity leave soon.

Instead of doing the Tesco home delivery she has now been introduced to the joys of "Aldi".

She has checked what she got against "Tesco" prices, and is saving around 25%.

Naydam's an aristocrat.

Saving a few quid and putting themselves  to a measure of inconvenience in the process is a step too far for many people.
It depends how flush you are I suppose.

Aldi and Lidl will both save you about 20-25% against Tesco prices. However you wont have the choice of 45 types of crisps and 2 aisles of biscuits but life goes on despite such hardships.

What hurts all of us is that their mum couldn't be here to enjoy it!

Did my usual thing of popping into Morrison's for a few bits, in a basket, and had to switch to a trolley this morning.

Two things to report....
Firstly on choosing some well marbled braising steak for my first stew of the year.

Selected the piece of choice which is 550gr and £3.52.

Picked up another piece and it was 430gr for £3.92!!!

Next for the "sweety bowl"...."Maynards Midget Gems" on special offer at £1.00 (normal price £1.48).

The village shop have them permanently at £1.00!!!

We just bought another frozen turkey from Aldi for £11 and they're alright.
I noticed the same weight turkeys were £15 or £16 in Tesco.
No wonder they're losing customers.

fancy a change this year ,gonna rustle up some lamb or summit

We can eat squirrels apparently.

Get an air rifle and go hunting for you Christmas lunch.
I don't fancy skinning them though.
