Does she deserve 40k for not doing her job. Pretty simple question. Even that whiter than white individual Keith Vaz is horrified at the payment, yet again given to an individual in the public sector who is way out of her depth with regards to running a child protection dept.

It's about 12 weeks money so basic redundancy, will hardly compensate for the vilification from the masses

Cheaper than the cost of a dismissal, with likely ET appeals etc as per the London unfair dismissal case for the woman at Isliangton. Even if defended successfully would cost way more than 40K
