He may be released after 10 months

Not serve a day, surely. Will appeal for sure on that sentence. Watch this space. Even the pro's couldn't agree.

Has to serve one sixth of the sentence, before parole is considered. So potentially could be out of prison after 10 months !

I don't agree with the 'experts' saying she has given a balanced sentence. As the most he could have got was 15, then a properly balanced sentence would have been 7 and a half.

Should have hired ojs lawyers he would have ended up getting compensation for police harrasment.

As the commentator just said 5 years is a heavy sentence for culpable homicide. Must appeal because this looks heavy handed. One man cannot be used as a weapon against society because they have awful gun crime figures.

I agree, 5 years can be seen as too lenient. The judge made a case of showing mercy to OP.
He didn't show Reeva much mercy did he ?

Had she set amuch lower sentence then appealing wouldn't be necessarily considered butthe length of this sentence forces his hand.

Could be out after 10 months. This isn't parole as such - remainder of sentence is under 'correctional supervision'.

I am doing. A number of posters have made the point recently that a thread is not being visibly  updated quick enough. I.e one assumes you are replying to the very last post, when in reality, after submitting the reply, you find one of more precede yours !

I think the opposite. Metinks he will be hobbling with delight at 5 years.

5 years, what a result he's had there.  Seemed to fall in line with the expectations from both sides

Or maybe it is parole? Not sure but certainly could be out after 10 months

I dont think he would have been found guilty if, after he had done the deed, he had sent her home in a taxi.

The ANC womens group have been supporting the family and flying them to the trial. On top of the fact OP has been paying them on a monthly basis because they had no money. This is not a done deal. In my opinion. Seems likegroups like the Women's ANC are putting pressure on the courts for sentencing of famous people, gun crime and crimes against women. There is lot more to this but there you go. There but for the grace etc.

I hope you're not suggesting that anyone of us should be grateful , because we all have the potential to find ourselves in a similar predicament ? Because that is just nonsense.

Defence team seem happy to me. Would be amazed if they appeal.

33 years for armed robbery but will be out before 10, that seems near the mark unlike OP's sentence which is a joke

Justice systems vary so much throughout the world.

In the UK he would have been given life. In the USA he would have gotten a book deal and his own chat show. The Saffers are somewhere in between..
