Since 1901, it (The Nobel Peace Prize) has been awarded annually (with some exceptions) to those who have "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."[1]
Wiki.

There's no denying the merit in the child's work, but how does it satisfy any of the conditions set out above?
If this is one of the exceptions mentioned then surely the award should be re named?
Awarding it to people for reasons that do not satisfy the original criteria, is simply devaluing the prize and a snub on those who have had it awarded for the correct reasons?

She's an inspirational figure the way she stood up to the Taliban and they way she hsn't allowed what happened to her to ruin her life. I also admire the fact that given her unique story she is using her platform attemting to do good. She's very young to be given such an award though and naive in her thought processes as any child would be of her age. Her comment about women even in the west not being treated as human beings was just plain daft.

I think all the seethers are missing a point. You are directing your venom at an extremely brave young lady...far braver I would bet than any of them. The fact that you are "sick of hearing about her" is not HER fault.
She simply wanted to go to school and she saw this as her right. I have no doubt whatsoever that she was fully aware of the danger that this incurred. She was assassinated for it. Shot in the head. The fact that she didn't die was pure fluke. She was not supposed to survive.
And now, after surgery, she is still attempting to highlight the problems that we, as western males, cannot even imagine. Living your entire life locked away in a back room, simply to cook and have children.
As for your references to her comments on western women I would suggest that her opinion can only have been formed from her short experiences in this country. Have you stopped to consider that she might not be referring European women? There are a hell of a lot (I believe) of young girls in this country who are not treated as equals.
I refer, of course, to ancient customs that some of our immigrant population want to continue that are directly opposed to our Western ideals.

Save your nasty remarks for the various media, for it is they who you should condemn, NOT this innocent girl!

There's a marked difference between standing up to a bully, like you  would in a shcool playground, and agitating a nutter with a gun, when you're not armed.

Would you do what she did?

I wouldn't.

I'd sooner pick off the nutter with a rifle, like a sniper, from a safe distance.

He won't bully any more, and I'd be injury free.

It's like giving the peace prize to the American air force for bombing North Vietnam.
Or giving it to the Israelis for invading Palestine and standing up to Hamas and its rockets.

Give her an award by all means but make it a meaningful one.

Can someone tell me what the lass has actually achieved except fame for herself?

MINGORA, Pakistan, Oct 11 (Reuters) - In the hometown of Nobel prize winner Malala Yousafzai, the students at the government-run Girls' High School Mingora sit cross-legged on sacks and sheets on the floor because there is not enough furniture.

The windows are broken, the walls dirty, and the teachers angry. Their anger is not directed at Malala herself, they say, but at a world that lavishes attention on her while ignoring the neglect and violence in her home of Swat Valley.

"It's all Malala, Malala, Malala," complained mathematics teacher Saima Khan. "There are hundreds of people who have sacrificed everything and lost everything. No one has given them anything."

At a cake-cutting ceremony on Saturday, politicians carrying posters of Malala jostled for space with civil society activists before marching to the press club along potholed streets piled high with rubbish.

Many residents looked askance at the procession, pointing out that even as leaders paid lip service to Malala's education drive, they were allowing schools in her hometown to crumble under government neglect and continued military occupation.

Their society is dominated by the attitude that men are supreme and women are simply a possession for the purpose of cleaning, cooking and bearing children. They spend their lives locked away and not allowed to go out. This rule is occasionally relaxed, but they must be accompanied by a male chaperone.
They are not allowed out because the sight of them might fill the males with sinful desires. You'd think they would lock the bloody fellas up! THEY are the problem.
And seeing as these girls/women are going to spend the rest of their existence locked away...then there is no need for them to go to school. What would they need to know?

I would guess that they prey upon any young girls which are available. These would naturally be white girls and perhaps this is also distorted by personal preferences for pale-skinned girls. This, also, would not be entirely surprising.

I don´t live in the UK so I don´t know if the lass is overexposed or not, but it is typical of the British media to want their piece of whoever is flavour of the month, especially when that person is photogenic and articulate and supports current orthodox thinking.

It´s no fault of the girl herself if the media try to spin her story in every way they can and its only natural if some people get tired of seeing the same face everywhere. That is no excuse however for the blatantly racist readers´posts on the Daily mail website.

If you do start this kind of thread and don´t want to be accused of racism you just have to start similar threads when the next white poster boy or girl comes along.
