Since 1901, it (The Nobel Peace Prize) has been awarded annually (with some exceptions) to those who have "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."[1]
Wiki. There's no denying the merit in the child's work, but how does it satisfy any of the conditions set out above? If this is one of the exceptions mentioned then surely the award should be re named? Awarding it to people for reasons that do not satisfy the original criteria, is simply devaluing the prize and a snub on those who have had it awarded for the correct reasons? |

Agreed the media are going totally over the top, but that is what we have to expect when everyone is trying to usurp each other in a relentless world of social media.
But cut through the carp (anag), and give this girl credit for what she has achieved in trying to change the attitudes of a region who's values are stuck in a previous age. |

after picking up the nobel peace prize surely this young lady could turn her full attention to sorting out betfairs football in play delays situation...

She's an inspirational figure the way she stood up to the Taliban and they way she hsn't allowed what happened to her to ruin her life. I also admire the fact that given her unique story she is using her platform attemting to do good. She's very young to be given such an award though and naive in her thought processes as any child would be of her age. Her comment about women even in the west not being treated as human beings was just plain daft.
By:
She should start a tipping line. I bet she is in the know when it comes to cricket betting.
By:
It is not that bad
She did a brave thing going to school despite warnings and standing up for women's education in the Afghanistan is a reasonable cause It was also a terrible blunder the Taliban shooting her, lost them massive sympathy one can't really go shooting 14 year old kids I don't listen to what she says now, In the West I think it is men who are the endangered species not women, they get everything they want now |
By:
I think this award has become of a political statement now
I don't place any real value on it now |
By:
It's as valuable as a lingfield maiden

I think all the seethers are missing a point. You are directing your venom at an extremely brave young lady...far braver I would bet than any of them. The fact that you are "sick of hearing about her" is not HER fault.
She simply wanted to go to school and she saw this as her right. I have no doubt whatsoever that she was fully aware of the danger that this incurred. She was assassinated for it. Shot in the head. The fact that she didn't die was pure fluke. She was not supposed to survive. And now, after surgery, she is still attempting to highlight the problems that we, as western males, cannot even imagine. Living your entire life locked away in a back room, simply to cook and have children. As for your references to her comments on western women I would suggest that her opinion can only have been formed from her short experiences in this country. Have you stopped to consider that she might not be referring European women? There are a hell of a lot (I believe) of young girls in this country who are not treated as equals. I refer, of course, to ancient customs that some of our immigrant population want to continue that are directly opposed to our Western ideals. Save your nasty remarks for the various media, for it is they who you should condemn, NOT this innocent girl! |
By:
I note the family sat around together mother and girl in stoneage covers and the boys and husband in western dress - I just love the hypocris y of it all. And - she is here and safe hmmmm!!!
By:
If she was assassinated it would be a posthumous award.
By:
For summarising the status of girls in PAK and AFG tribal areas who want an education in a few sentences, I think Naydam should get an award.
By:
well said NAYDAM, i couldnt have put it better myself.
By:
Yes. very well put indeed. Remarkable young lady.
By:
At the start of her interview on the news, she referred to herself in the third person, which was a bit worrying.
By:
Told you she was remarkable. lol

"For I, Malala, am no longer prepared to tolerate this crap!"
![]() Then she unleashed a beam of energy from her eyes that dissolved the BBC guy. Did no-one else spot this? |

Leazes67. I was using a bit of 'poetic licence. Obviously the girl was not dead. But the person who shot didn't realise that. A bullet to the head usually does the trick. This one survived. Even THAT wasn't her fault!
