A decent amateur boxer, a singer, reached 18 in the charts back in the 50's & presenter of Crackerjack among lots of other stuff, met someone years back that had been a guest on a this is your life show but cannot remember who the star was.
Report portmanpark October 7, 2014 1:34 PM BST

Crackerjack had a quiz called 'Double or Drop' in which
you got goodies for every right answer and a cabbage for a
wrong one, the snag was you had to hold them,
3 cabbages and you were out, you were also out
and lost your prizes if you dropped them. Too cruel for
todays children.
I always wanted a crackerjack pencil.

This takes me back,he lived in the road I was born and brought up in. I used to deliver his morning paper for years. I seem to remember he was quite generous with my Christmas box (no innuendo intended).

I was surprised by Eamonn. Surprised that he was on tv. He had zilch talent.
Report kenny mann October 7, 2014 5:33 PM BST
Far from it. He was a very competent presenter imo.
Report kenny mann October 7, 2014 5:33 PM BST
I was on Crackerjack about 1959.

I remember a Sea King helicopter winchman being on once. He got a standing ovation at the end from the audience, and rightly so.

I loved crackerjack and always wanted to be on it.
What was Playbox Kenny, I can't remember that? Googled it and it says it was a show from the 80s for 2-5 year olds.

Thanks Do Wah. akabula. Palaybox was on every other Friday, also presented by Eamon. It was more of a thoughtful game show rather than slapstick, and I always looked forward to it.

He hosted a chat show on ITV, The Eamonn Andrews Show.[3] He was famous for coming up with off-the-cuff linkings that did not work – such as: "Speaking of cheese sandwiches, have you come far?"

Throughout the 1950s, he commentated on the major British heavyweight fights on the BBC Light Programme, with inter-round summaries by J. Barrington Dalby!
Report kenny mann October 7, 2014 8:46 PM BST
Yes I remember it well. Decent commentator.

Was annoyed when they postponed Journey Into Space one night for the boxing.
Report rob_dylan October 7, 2014 9:12 PM BST
Thought you would enjoy a bit of boxing considering you did a bit in your younger days Kenny.
Report mememe October 8, 2014 3:15 PM BST
I remember a This is Your Life programme in the late 1950s when they used to have old soldiers, nurses, etc.
In one programme, the guest was an old war hero from the war with Japan.  He'd been ambushed in the jungle and a Japanese soldier had attacked him with a sword and cut his arm off.  His platoon came back to fight off the Japoon but the old soldier said that the f**ker just disappeared into the jungle, never to be seen again.
"Well" Eamon said "you've not seen him for 15 years, but tonight, having flown halfway round the world to be with you on your big night is ..."
How they all laughed.
Report posy October 8, 2014 4:22 PM BST
Very funny story mememe;made me laugh too
Report screaming from beneaththewaves October 8, 2014 6:17 PM BST
