I remember a This is Your Life programme in the late 1950s when they used to have old soldiers, nurses, etc.
In one programme, the guest was an old war hero from the war with Japan. He'd been ambushed in the jungle and a Japanese soldier had attacked him with a sword and cut his arm off. His platoon came back to fight off the Japoon but the old soldier said that the f**ker just disappeared into the jungle, never to be seen again. "Well" Eamon said "you've not seen him for 15 years, but tonight, having flown halfway round the world to be with you on your big night is ..." How they all laughed. |
