Bianchi taken to hospital unconscious.  Doesnt sound good, apparently they havent shown the crash.  Sutil went off earlier at the same corner and Bianchi hit a recovery vehicle.  If that is like a JCB then there wouldnt be much give whatever the speed, dont suppose the safety design of F1 cars covers hitting a recovery vehicle.  Good luck.

No footage anywhere, just pictures on all the youtube videos, was watching the race but mostly showing hamilton/rosberg. Hard to drive at 200mph when a car is virtually aquaplanning

We only watch f1 for the crashes, seems to be a total blackout on this crash, cant find it anywhere.

I've read 'unconfirmed reports' that he may have survived surgery and is breathing unaided

This comparison photo is unnerving

Bianchi sadly has suffered a 50g impact to the forehead at 210kph
Right now I believe he has survived initial surgery and is breathing independently. The next 24 hours will be critical to how much of a recovery he's able to make. He has multiple internal hemorrhages and they just don't know whether the surgery will save him or not. However it would seem the chances of him resuming his career in motorsport are somewhere between nothing and 0. Shame, he was a highly respected talent who I believe was about to get his big break out of Marussia. Now we'll never know how good he might have been.

JCB left on track ?
Report Ivor October 5, 2014 9:20 PM BST
No - the vehicle was there to retrieve Sutils car after accident on the same bend (aquaplaning) one lap earlier.
They were safety-car 'under yellows' when Bianchi lost control. Extraordinary misfortune :(
Report rob_dylan October 5, 2014 9:23 PM BST
Funny thing is I remember watching the sutil(I think) crash and the comms saying how it should be a safety car now.  I thought why, no debris on track, the car is off to the side stuck in tyres, no danger, just carry on.  Shows what I know.

Martin Brundle has been predicting this accident for years after he was nearly killed in one involving a JCB-type vehicle. The thing is, when cars were bursting into all-consumming fires in the late 60s no one could see what could be done but something was done. No driver has died by fire after the four were incinerated in their cars from 1967-1973. The will was there was to change things and surely it is now. It is just a pity that Bianchi has to be the casualty that finally makes them do something about the situation of having big high solid vehicles dawdling about recovering cars when drivers are still doing 100+plus mph driving round.

Introduce speed-cap once yellow flags are out. 40MPH
Report fkqmz October 5, 2014 10:55 PM BST
to be honest i feel like this issue is that important that i'm concerned any decision that's made this season will have been made too soon. its an immensely complex issue. the tractors are the best solution because they're relatively quick, can remove the cars without damaging them (any further!) and they can travel over whatever terrain they happen to be on - mud, grass, gravel etc. the problem is in order to do this they need high ground clearance so what's the solution? Like i say i'd like them to leave it as is for the rest of the season, pray this doesn't happen again and give it some serious consideration over the winter.
Also Martin Brundle is an arse. His 'predictions' come true about 10% of the time. When they don't, he quietly forgets about it as does everyone else. When they do, he's sniffing his own farts all over the media and the sheep just fall at his feet and worship him as the god of F1. He's a self glorifying, sarcastic, BSing arse, don't listen to him!

Incredibly unfortunate that he went off at the exact same spot where there was the tractor thing.

F1 is lucky there weren't any deaths though as i'd assume he must've been pretty close to smashing into the marshals who were sorting out Sutil's car

What speed will they be doing in 20 years time, 300 mph down the straight?

If they limit cars to 100 mph it could make it a lot safer.
Report Clungehungry October 7, 2014 1:09 AM BST

A car that weighs nest to fack all knocked a JCB 4 feet into the air.

Unbelievable, car should have disintegrated on impact.

Used up all his good luck tokens there.
Reaper in that crash.

Well enough to or not, I'd give up F1 driving after beating The Grim
Report call me a taxi October 7, 2014 12:30 PM BST
wtf?
Report FlowerMyth October 7, 2014 12:46 PM BST
Two things. First the cars have survival cells (though the head's still largely exposed). And Sutil's car is dangling on the outstretched arm of the JCB. It probably weighs three quarters of a ton on the ground and it's up in the air, so it's possible that helped save his life as the back end will have had room to move up and more give with the weight of the other car at the front.
