Pretty sure there was one of these a couple of years ago but wouldn't know how to find it. Heading to Vegas with 9 other mates for 6 nights at the end of the month. Any tips and advice on gambling, drinking, eating, clubbing, Jack the Rippers, firing big guns etc. would be appreciated. I've been before but many years ago when I was a kid so have seen a lot of the sights Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam etc so it's mainly the more adult stuff I'm looking for.

When the type of woman that wouldn't look twice at you anywhere else starts chatting to you at the bar, it isn't because you've turned into a sex god on the flight over. $$$$$ will be required and plenty of em.

Try and get a table in Hugo's Cellar in the Four Queens in Freemont Street.  The sommelier is from Leeds and will get you a nice bottle of plonk to go with your tasty steak.  Then you can wander through the old casinos downtown (but don't stray from the bright lights!)

If you are gambling a lot get a reward card, you might get something off your bill or free rooms next time you go over.

Have a go at a video poker pub crawl.  You put $20 in the video poker machine at the bar, put a dollar on the bar for a tip, and you will get your drink free as you're gambling on the machine.  Play until you lose $10 or win $10 and then cash out, finish your drink and on to the next bar.

btw when you get free drinks gambling, always tip the waitress a dollar or two if you want, they sometimes get charged for the drinks and lose out if they don't get a tip.

Visit the NewYork NewYork hotel. There's a village in the hotel where you can get away from the constant ching ching of the machines. The piano bar in the same hotel is also worth a visit.

A meal at the stratosphere (revolving restaurant) gives you a good view of the strip at night. There's a few rides on top of the hotel for the mad/brave. You can go out on a balcony to look at the rides.

bar at times sq is the dueling piano bar at nyny, coyote ugly (certainly worth seeing the barmaids) same hotel

a lot of the clubs are american naff, will come down to personal taste and generally they go in and out of fashion by the month so it's better to ask when you are there where people are going because some of the supposed best clubs can be dead

some of the ones to check on are haze at the aria, the marquee at cosmo, light at mandalay bay, but all the large hotels have one and it's easier to follow the crowd

as far as guns, you're spoilt for choice, a friend of mine tried battlefield vegas and said it was ok but it's not my thing and i've not tried it

can't beat the top hotels for a buffet eat as much as you like job, has to be done but top rests are all over the place, hard to go hungry when you can eat & drink for free whilst playing in the casinos though

As regards the rides at The Stratosphere, I would suggest you go up first to have a look at to what is involved. You buy tickets on the ground floor and plenty of people who I as there with wouldn't do them when they got to the top. Obviously there was a no refund policy. I was fuelled by several Long Island Iced Teas so did them all. The pool area in Manadalay Bay is really smart, worth a visit if you fancy a break from the tables. The finest of American fillies will be in the huge wave pool bouncing around. Happy

a friend of mine blew off (and it was grim) as a group of japanese loaded into the statosphere lift from one side as we exited the other, i'd imagine that was a worse ride than anything they found at the top

I doubt your want to do too many trips but if you don't fancy the Grand Canyon its a good time to go to death valley as its closed May - September because its way too hot.

Cirque du Soleil have eight different shows, in eight different casinos. You don`t get to do that unless your shows are pretty phucking good. I`ve seen a few of them, each one better than the last.

Was there last January and we went to Discount Firearms and Ammo which is on the road that runs alongside the Strip.

If there's four or more the Gold Package is good as you get to fire two automatics, two semi automatics, pump action shotgun, WW1 sit down machine gun and two handguns which included the Desert Eagle which is a monster of a weapon.

Gold Package was around $170 and they pick you up from and take you back to the hotel.

Good value we thought.

Just booked the mirage today for my 1st trip there next year really looking forward to it.

Any do's & donts?Everyonr seems to recommend the Grand Canyon trip.

Where has the best chilled out but fun pool scene?

Reading online about the $20 trick in the hotels anybody ever tried this or is it a load of BS?

pools are normally for guests only & not many are that quiet, maybe wynn is the best bet if you can blag your way in but you get so many pool party types it can vary a fair bit, also a lot busier / louder on weekends , mirage isn't bad compare to some others on the strip

Cheers folks. Might take a look at Death Valley Pumphol but suspect might be too far away . It's not that I don't fancy the Grand Canyon just that I've been before (admittedly when I was a kid so would like to go back) and if I was to return I would want to have at least a full day there, and in the National Park not the South Rim, so taking up 3 days is too long and I'd rather do other stuff. Some of the other folk who haven't been there before though may end up going to the South RIm.

Staying at the Aria as well so if anyone's got any advice for that as well would be good.

Will take a look at Discount Fire Arms Lovegod, thanks.

Timbuc I quite fancy a Cirque show but not sure if it would be the right scene and night for 10 guys in their thirties. How long do they last?

Elise Coyote Ugly bar looks a definite.

Only thing booked so far is the LA Lakers v Sacramento (I think) which should be decent.

The Pro Bull Riders finals is on that week as well so may take a look at that.

Couple of years back so not sure if it's still the same but we went to the Wynn Champagne Sunday Brunch, was about $40 but apart from the food being superb main reason being that you got unlimited Champagne or (I went for) Bloody Mary.

And it's not cheap sheite either, decent drink. We were there about 2 hours and the girls are just wandering around with jugs topping up, came out about 2pm into the sun 3 sheets, great fun. 10 of you could get a right good session on.

they did a similar one at the mirage, both were excellent for large prawn / lobster also included, as you say  3 sheets lol

It`s almost impossible to describe what Cirque du Soleil do, there`s nothing to compare it to. It`s NOT a `circus`, though. They last two, maybe two and a half hours, and I feel they are `right` for everybody. I was about 40 when I first saw them, and I`m not sure why you think they might not be suitable for thirty-something men. Eight different permanent shows says they have universal appeal.

I`ll have a `virtual` bet with you: I bet that,if you go to one show early in your stay, you`ll end up going to see another one!

We also went to a show called Absinthe at Caesars Palace. Its an acrobatic show but has plenty of filthy humour.

The Voodoo Lounge Nightclub at the top of the Rio hotel, most amazing view of Las Vegas at night, the club is ok and nice Steakhouse up there as well, but the view is probably one of the best views of Vegas at night.

^ Re Cirque du Soleil shows, seen a few and they were good but not a big fan, although The Beatles one, 'LOVE' at the mirage hotel, that was a great show.

If your brave enough you can jump off the Stratosphere Tower, its a controlled cable leap, and you are going down about 40 miles an hour !  And more scary rides at the top where they tilt you over the edge or another one they shoot you up in the air, have a look at them on YouTube. Although you can go up there without actually going on the rides.

The Grand Canyon most amazing place I've ever seen, the enormous scale of it is just breath taking !

Vegas is a fantastic place but maybe not everyone's idea of a holiday.

Timbuc I think I would definitely enjoy it I'm just not sure if is the kind of thing for ten guys to go to in Vegas for a night out. i.e will folk be sitting there thinking this is good but I'd rather be hitting the tables, bars, strippers (not literally) etc. If in London or in New York I would go and see a show with a woman or a few other folk but wouldn't necessarily think that would be worth suggesting for a night with a large group of other guys with all the other stuff to do.

Lovegod I've looked at Absinthe and think that may be a good warm up for a club later.

The Champagne brunches look good. It's Sunday 26th at 9.30pm we are leaving though so could be carnage hitting the champagne early doors with no opportunity to sleep it off in the room later having checked out. Might see if they do one on Saturday or any other days.

I've always wanted to go but fear i'd lose a shed load of cash

a lot of people that go to vegas aren't big gamblers at all , a mate of mine went recently with his missus , he's a ten quid kinda gambler at best , but seems he had a great time , did all the trips , grand canyon etc

As elise said pools are usually for guests - Mirage had a topless pool area at one time.

If you don't mind a bit of a march you should ask for a room far away from the lifts.  They tend to be a bit quieter if you want to doss in your room till the afternoon after being out late.

Cheers for the advise.
Guy at work & his missus done the Grand Canyon helicopter trip but was nearly $1000 for them both! Is it worth this and if so would it be too hot in June to enjoy it?
