There wasn't a 'first' of either - the question has no meaning.

Dolphins were monkeys that didn't like the land, walked back to the water, went back from the sand.
Report naydam October 1, 2014 11:18 PM BST
How do you know that the Universe isn't full of other life forms? How would you identify them if they don't fit our ill-defined concept of what is life? How do you know that the whole Universe (as we call it) isn't just a small part of an atom-like component that is a part of a very large beast?
Your concept of time, distance and size depend entirely upon our our own insignificant 'lives'.  SadSad

and while i am at it ,i would like to take the praise for proving that there was never a big bang, because the gravity of the universe if it had been formed at the second of the big bang would have been too strong a force to allow the universe to expand.

Dolphins did go back to the water it is true, they tried the land but land just didn't click with the dolphins.

i proved that life can not exist without air or water, and the comets and meteroites that have hit the earth for billions of years never formed rust until they reached earth.now if there had been one of the millions and millions that did reach earth containing rust i would believe that life exists somewhere else, but no rust proves no water or no air on their travels,so we are on our own.if a trillion  meteorites can travel for trillions of miles and for billions of years and not encounter oxygen or water there must be none.

Report brassneck October 1, 2014 11:37 PM BST
so given that the universe has controlled itself for the last 16 billion years and continues to do so,there has to be some sort of intelligent force controlling it.an energy god.a super great power.and it must have started life at some stage.
Report cruso October 1, 2014 11:40 PM BST
Life on earth started as simple cells 3.6 billion years ago
Human life is a mere 200000 years old.
The earth is 4.6 billion years old.
The observable universe is 46 billion years old.
Put these facts together and there might have been  other intelligent life out there but not necessarily at this moment in time.
Life just evolves and our species may be near its zenith.

Dna has 35 recepters and if one receptor is out of cink it will not work, these receptors are working it a recognized manner, again proving an intelligent force is at work.and energy can not be destroyed so when we die our energy must go somewhere.so nobody dies they mearly change their state of energy.Cool
Report Ivor October 1, 2014 11:45 PM BST
I've been watching the conferences - I'm not convinced there is intelligent life even here :(
Report brassneck October 1, 2014 11:51 PM BST
this also proves that there is no such thing as time, time is endless in energy form and and energy can not be created so it had no beginning,so some sort of intelligent force always was and always will be in a state of energy.which proves that there has to be a way out of a blackhole.feck me i don't know what the science foundations of the world are doing when i can work it out all on my own.Grin

Report brassneck October 2, 2014 12:11 AM BST

Evolution has been scientifically proved.
It gets us from the first single cells form of life, or at least the existence of DNA, to where we are now.
Before that we are still blind.

It is the application of fixed Evolutionary laws, applied to a slightly different starting point over and over again,
that gives us all life forms we have today and in the past(the extinct ones).
DNA replication can contain slight mutations which may offer an advantage or not, this is where the different starting
points come from.
Report brassneck October 2, 2014 12:18 AM BST
single cells can do nothing on their own.

The Big Bang was not a bang.
It was an expansion.

If all the matter in the Universe was created in the first few microseconds of the Universe, which we believe.
I assumed it included Gravity?

But the Universe expanded to where we are now, and is continuing to expand, faster and faster, so logically
there must be something stronger than Gravity which is drawing us apart, or in all the matter created, it contains something
which overcomes gravity and is driving us apart, dark energy has been put forward.

The more we discover about the Universe , the less we know.
Report brassneck October 2, 2014 12:20 AM BST

This business of saying that no water and/or no air/oxygen simply shows what an extremely restricted version of 'life' you are seeking to find.
Why would a life form need these things? Why would it need to exist within the tight restraints of 'visible light' as we call it.

People who don't know the answer always waffle about how others don't understand the concept of time and space and seek to patronise to seem more intelligent.

There is no definitive answer, if the brightest minds that have ever walked the planet can't all agree on the answer then there sure as hell isn't anyone here that knows.

Meteorites come from within our own Solar System

Water would have existed in the materials that formed our earth. Perhaps released by cooling, a collision which created the moon, brought by comets, gorge yourself on Wikipedia if you have  a few hours to spare

I only know popular science

The science which comes from our scientists, people like Steven Hawkings, would be beyond me

as most of us, I suspect.

I have some doubt most of us, would have had the intelligence to discover fire myself
We would still be eating our food rawSad and living in caves if left to ourselves

That was the theory at one time....but now scientists are saying the expansion of the Universe is speeding up

so will not contract

We have still not found all the matter there should be in the Universe, possibly because it is dark?

From one small planet in a gigantic Universe, it is amazing we have worked out what we have

There some seriously clever people about, our knowledge is passed down through the ages

and will be passed on to our descendants, we just hand the baton on

To prove a maker....only one thing is needed, prove one thing in the Universe
which could not have happened by any of the physical laws of the Universe
therefore must have been created by an external entity

You need one thing that is all

Or perhaps some clever scientist will prove there must been a maker one day, who knows?

Unless of course a creator also created the physical laws of the Universe.
But the answer is of course that no-one knows either on here or anywhere else. We laugh our socks off at some of the stuff people believed a few hundred years ago and I am sure it will be the same in a few hundred years time.
