Because Cameron would be finished - no way could he lead the Tories into the next election if he lost Scotland.  I suspect most Tory MPs however would be secretly enjoying a yes vote.

Because the Elite in England will lose billions, billions that they have stolen from the Scottish people for years, billions that will now be used to the benefit of the ordinary man in Scotland.

The Tories would have an advantage if the vote was to be a Yes (which I really don't think it will be) in that they would have a bigger %age of potential seats at future elections, given that they have no seats in Scotland.
So Cameron and co are pretending they want the Scots to stay, whilst briefing the media that the opposite is true.

Scottish people wouldn't be billions better off either. A few international conglomerates might benefit in the short term, but it's doubtful that most people would really notice any real difference.
