"Any suggestion that oil is a problem would bring roars of laughter across the dinner tables of Oslo. In 2013 the Norwegian oil wealth fund reached a surplus of $828 billion - helping Norway to become the richest country in the world. This is enough to make every Norwegian a millionaire. Few are complaining."
income raised so far for the country since the seventies is £300 billion($450 billion). they say oil revenues are down but they have been investing in new wells and floating platforms(the new kid on the block). Don't count the expenditures, you've been sinking the cash flow in the last few years?
how will Scotland survive with a deficit? well the UK as a whole owes over a trillion. 1000 billion. Scotland's share would be 80 billion. leaving a surplus of 200 billion in oil revenues if the figures are right that there is as much still to come.
how can the UK survive with a deficit of 920 billion?
Do you feel Scotland should be governed by the people who live and work here, in line with broad opinion within Scotland?
If yes, vote yes.
If no, vote no.
Everything comes back to that very simple concept.

it would be even simpler if one party only put up one policy, no more immigration from Asia,Africa and Eastern Europe, I think that would be a winner. cheers.

The Norwegian foreign debt stands at over 650 billion ,still leaves a deficit of 80 billion but you have to take a closer look at the situation there . The oil fund was started in the early seventies .Think the fund is the biggest single investor having a wide portfolio in all sorts including a massive property arm which is registered in luxembourg for tax reasons The fund is so wide some think its actually not insulated from downturns ,recession ect .It operates in many countries that would be seen as risky ,russia ,brazil ect but has year on year produced decent returns but the fact the country has a sizeable debt tells its own story . IF oil was a simple solution for Scotland or Uk there would be no need to be fracking ,covering large areas in wind turbines and spending vast somes on a huge battery system in the great glen to store the renewables would there ? Once oil is gone its gone ,technology will supersede the need for vast amounts of petrol/diesel ,its way to valuable an asset to be wasted in such a way anyway and will be needed for other uses long after the motor vehicle has stopped using it. All in all its folly and stupid to compare Scotland with Norway ,they started a fund a long long time ago. Also dont forget the tax rate and cost of living a pint of beer is easily £6 pounds and more and often nearer £7 . There will be no oil fund in an iScotland ,all the tax/revenue raised will be used before its even created . lets not mention how much would have to be borrowed and from whom just to survive ,and on the imigration side ,net migration of 25k a year for the next twenty would be needed to pay pensions ect ,and thats net not total

We'll be taken for a ride by the Nastis if we vote No.Just grow some.

Wow .... just wow. Someone actually typed the above. The yes support really don't have the beginning as clue do they :(
Scotland is already running a deficit and would have a BIGGER deficit after a Yes, and that's before it loses the defence and shipbuilding and finance jobs and the high paid run a mile from the incoming tax rises. How does a country running a large deficit pay off debt? And don't say oil, it's already incuded in the deficit figures.
It's clear reading the various yes posters they really don't even understand the basics of all this, and what a disaster it would be for Scotland. Significantly damaging a country because of some small minded hatred of some posh (English) people, it's just tragic.

So you would prefer the likes of Tony Blair who was both Scottish and Labour.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

What's tragic is that some small minded people actually believe that.

Told you before, Blair was NEVER a socialist. Still, further confirmation of your party loyalty, akabula.

The economic case absolutely doesn't add up and indeed would damage scotland and its economy and hurt the people voting for it, it would cause an immense amount of unneeded costly grief and reorganisation. Jobs WILL be lost. But the subtext of about 80% of the crap is "I hates the nasty tories stomp stomp", so I stand by what I say.
Hating the tories won't create the jobs for those who would lose them or bridge the deficit required to pay for handouts and freebies as the economy nose dives.
The people voting Yes need to realise this isn't a game and how very serious this is, it's big fun hating the tories I'm sure but won't help the people who will lose their jobs or who can't pay their mortgage due to higher interest rates or who just can't break even anymore due to the increased cost of living - THAT will be the reality.

@Alias You've a short memory as Salmond was in the papers recently refusing to discuss his 5 star hotel bills. And again I will tell you Jim Murphy claimed within the rules. First your mob threw eggs now they are mud slinging. Still I suppose that's better than the bricks through the windows of the NO voters.
BETTER TOGETHER so VOTE NO

As a matter of interest what's your greatest worry:
1.Scotland voting 'Yes'.
2.The Rangers going back into administration.
As a gambler '2' has to be the safest option, but I remain optimistic for '1'.

If Scotland went into administration* (you know what I mean and it would be a real possibility if we vote yes) it would be a disaster. If Rangers went into administration then it would be a sad day for me but hardly the end of the world.

Soapys white paper has one page on which he says we will allow unlimited immigration to grow the economy. His master plan is to fill the country with cheap foreign labour cross his fingers and hope things get better.

Alias, you come across as one of them do-gooders, more worried about an apostrophe than the fate of your country, anyhow, Scotland might gain independence but Salmond might lose the election, hopefully. cheers.

Meanwhile, do stop worrying about a Pakistani invasion, there's a sensible laddie.

It would be wonderful to see German Lizzie blubbing at losing another magnificent freebie - just like she did when the Royal Yacht Britannia was taken from her and her parasites.
Is that right, Mac? In that case I REALLY hope the Yes vote wins!It would be wonderful to see German Lizzie blubbing at losing another magnificent freebie - just like she did when the Royal Yacht Britannia was taken from her and her parasites.
