Moving house and will have 2 homes for 3 months = 2 lots of Council tax, even though new one is empty while builders sort it out. No relief and must pay for both even if one is empty ... should I tell them that 1 person is moving to new house and get 25% discount ... and how do they check?

Join the Royal Family and we`ll pay it for you and on top of that we`ll give you millions of pounds per annum to live the high life. In return, you must attend a few state banquets, great food and drink, and jet around the world doing similar.

themightymac . . . I fervently hope that your failure to mention all the medals that mememe would be awarded for joining the Royal Family doesn't mean that you believe that mememe wouldn't, and the other family members don't, deserve such medals.

not in Solihull MBC. It's the full amount even if empty and if it's empty for more than 2 years there's a 50% surcharge.
They could teach Betfair a thing or two about premium charging!
And not one forumite's either helped me(yet, but they will, for they are very wise) or made me really smile.

According to the gov.uk website councils may give a discount under the circumstances you describe, but they may also charge 100%. Birmingham does the 100% thing.

ok, knew there was a surcharge for unoccupied for 18 months plus in some areas but thought most did a short term discount, seems a bit daft and unhelpful to those relocating etc

I pay £15.90 per month for council tax out of my unemployment benefits. (Theft money according to some)!
Gotta love Central Government for allowing the "elite majority tory councillors" on the committee in my constituency for voting that through.
P.S. Congrats on buying 2 houses mememe and being disciplined to not blow the lot on a roll of a dice.
On that note i'm off to the sauna house...catch the England match on the highlights programme later.

You get 6 months without having to pay if work is being done on it and nobody lives there

Tell the local council you're turning it into a mosque - no council tax involved.
