Bodil, I know you like the Kindle thing where you can read books and stuff, yeah? I was thinking, like, some of this stuff you can get on the Kindle and other stuff you CANNOT get, yeah? Have you got "The Day My Uncle Came Back From His Allotment In Walthamstow" by Mark White?
Here is the beginning of Chabter One just to whet your appetite whistle. If you like it I will try to post bits that are part of other Chabters :
"Uncle Walther tried to impose vegetarianism upon his entire extended family, including his nephews and nieces, Arnold, Derek, Micky, Vera and me. At a time when cash money was in short supply, Uncle Walther bribed us kids to eat broccoli, carriots, onions, leeks, courgettes and rhubarb. The rhubarb wasn't so bad if there was sugar in the kitchen cupboard. Uncle Walther also insisted on giving us lectures about the supremacy of vegetarianism before every meal. He would bang a big brass gong to summon us poor kids to the veg lectures."
Don't you start Tommy Toes! I can't be having a man named after a veg on this thread - that will be ruddy ruinous!
And don't be telling me tomato is a fruit 'cause as far as we YES FOR INDEPENDENCE voters are concerned, it's a veg. Fair enough, if you live in Greece or Southern Italy, a tomato can be a fruit - fair enough.

Yeah I seed the tomatoes...I seed them sitting on top of the radiator in the hall. So what? Should I paint a picture, like, with oil paints just 'cause I seed them when I went to the bog on occasion...?

Haha! Funnily enough I've been looking at stuff about bell peppers lately Vel, as I've been eating TONS of them in stir-frys lately (by heck, I never realised they were so good for you, Uncle Walter would have been bang gong crazy!) - and I only learned just yesterday that just like tomatoes, peppers too are a FRUIT!
I eat far more FRUIT that I consider as VEG than I ever thought possible!

I've never seen such a thing - but can well imagine his disdain for it seeing as you can buy a kilo of fresh onions for 69p - even in Tesco!

Just checking the Index of Mark White's masterful tome, Tommy...tome, Tommy ...yeah...page 138...
"Darius and Derek confronted Uncle Walther at the bottom of the stairwell where all the hats and coats were hung, along with the scarves and gloves. Derek's breests burned with fury, even as he confronted his least favourite uncle :
"Uncle Walther, you explicitly forbade the use of onion powder and dessicated chervil in this house...yet Mrs. Evans the housekeeper found a stash of onion powder and dried chervil in your dressing table this morning...what have you got to say for yourself? Eh? Eh? Mmmmnn?"
Uncle Walther drew on his pipe and stroked his municipal greying beard before releasing a torrent of reply.
"I don't have to justify myself to you young nippers no more than a king of the realm has to answer to a truckful of starving beggars in Romney Marshes. Get away with yourselves now and don't be so impertinent!"
