I always used to enjoy my trips down there - something for everyone - but on my last couple of visits, about 10 years ago, it did seem to be going downhill.

Went there when I was a kid back in the 1960s.
The only thing I remember was how far the tide went out, it was a long long way.
Furthest I've seen on an English beach.

Live there.  Tide goes out about 5 yards!!!  Great place so long as you know where to go.

Nice one.

I get the feeling Boscombe and Bournemouth itself could be full of kebab houses and nasty little take away joints

went there June 2010

looked like it's slightly more upmarket than my previous visit 10 years before,  beach looked like it could have been  in one of Spains better resorts - lovely facilities , showers all along the beach - life guards a'la baywatch ,lovely sand and the sea for whatever reason is a nicer green colour compared to the east coast greyish tones .

mind you it was a sunny,  hot week

Bournmouth has and seems to be for the older person (retired - lost the will to live section of society) - Torquay seeems 'slightly' better - even Weymouth isn't as bad as it used to be. imo of course.

About a dozen of us are off to New Milton in October, I'm sure that's not too far away because my missus is telling everybody that we are off to Bournemouth for a week.
