You'd think having to sit through Fast and Furious 6 would be punishment enough.

thank god he is locked up - its a relief to know I can sleep easily in my bed tonight knowing this scumbag is off the streets

just heard this on the 6 o'clock news. facts exactly as stated by OP.  complete disgrace.  Get less for killing someone if you've got a half-arsed excuse about 'not being in control of yourself' to go with it.

He didn't just record it though did he.
Report desperatemunter August 22, 2014 6:39 PM BST
no, he put it online and 600,000 people downloaded it.  They didn't report he made money from doing it.

He didn't just use a camcorder in a cinema either Laugh

On Thursday, he pleaded guilty to three charges of distributing pirate copies of films and was jailed for 33 months.

The court was told he made £1,000 from selling copies of the film for £1.50 but the cost to the movie giants Universal was estimated as £2.3 million.

only £1000 ?  thats fck all.  really fck all.
Report desperatemunter August 22, 2014 6:49 PM BST
report said 600,000 people downloaded it.  if they all paid £1.50 thats £0.9m - definitely get a few years for that.
Report desperatemunter August 22, 2014 6:51 PM BST
the court reporting more likely to be the truth - £1000 it is then.  shouldn't go to jail for defrauding to the tune of £1000
Report Wesdag August 22, 2014 6:55 PM BST
The fact that he didn't defraud by a larger amount is really his problem.

It would seem to be that the online downloads were free and he made no money from them but also sold physical copies on his Facebook page.

The point is though that he wasn't just jailed for "using a camcorder in a cinema" and the BBC article provides very little detail on the actual case and the aggravating factors. It does seem very high to me but the article I read earlier also mentioned that he continued to sell copies of other films after his arrest and bail and also had previous convictions. His co accused only got community service.  If any of his previous conditions were for offences of dishonesty then even at 1000 pound you would expect jail.

I hope he enjoyed the film. Laugh

Always the case that there's more to a story than just an attention grabbing headline.

The funniest part of it is he seems to have been caught by his torrent username. Supposedly the film company googled  the username that uploaded it and up popped his Plenty of Fish Profile with his name, age, photo and no doubt a bit on his hobbies and what kind of relationship he's looking for LaughLaugh.
