She told me she'd like to work with Tibeten horses. When I asked why, she said, "Well, you like tibeten horses" (True)

Have you noticed how this generation take it much more seriously than we did?, and they're all really supportive of each other too.

Stevie , the only time my dad looked over the moon was the day I got a job , don't recall even getting a well done off my parents for passing an exam..
My kids results mean the world to me .
There was no 'supportive' back in the day .....if your mates had bad results, it was tough they should have worked harder.
My lad ,despite his excellent results , stayed at school all morning . This was because his best mate was struggling to stay on in the 6th form due to poor results ..... that has made me just as proud as his results.

All kids are super intelligent these days and want to be doctors or vets or lawyers or whatever's on Sky. And they get super exam results. But not that many make it ... good luck to her and tell her to keep working and working, because it's the only way.

You're spot on, though to be fair on her she's been focussed on this since age 5.
The competition for these professions is dominated by kids with the (questionable) benefit of a private eductaion + tutoring, a sense of entitlement, and bought experience doing something worthy like saving the snow leopard in Komodo or whatever.
We'd struggle to match that, but my bet is her determination and common sense (combined with grades and suitable experience) will impress. She's aiming for the RVC - and they have a good reputation for sorting the wheat from the chaff regardless of background.

Stevie, good luck but if she's bright and works hard she'll do it. Our younger daughter (now in 30s) went to local comp, worked hard, top university, blue chip accountancy company, straight passes (now stay at home mum - bit of part time work).
DON'T kid yourself - and more importantly your step-daughter - that she can't compete with private school types. HARD WORK is the key (plus a lot of brains helps). PS I've go the brains but not the hard work - hence living off betfair.

my 14 yr old son has done his Maths GCSE this year but I don't know what he's got yet as he's staying in Sussex with his grandparents at the moment. Hope someone found this interesting.

Anyway, as the internet said the other day:"A-LEVEL STUDENTS. Increase the odds of getting in the paper when you get your results by being female, attractive and in mid-air. "
