The Daily Mail's campaign regarding the Stephen Lawrence murder had far more to do with trying to gain black readership than any sense of justice or caring for him. They saw it as a bandwagon to aid circulation and jumped on it.

I think what I said is the generally held belief of the motives of their campaign. The fact that the Lawrence family were seen as 'middle England' in every way except their colour probably made Paul Dacre feel a little less 'dirty' by going against his and the Mail's ethos.

They don't, and while the outcome of their Lawrence campaign was successful, that was a happy coincidence. He saw an opportunity to increase circulation amongst the black population and went for it

It was actually the dishonesty of their Lawrence campaign that made me realise what a nasty paper the Mail was. Whether they were successful with their ploy I don't know.
Anyway, I'm sure the Mail would claim arguing on internet forums gives you cancer. Or cures it, depends which way up the coin landed that day.
I shall stop being so cynical about the Daily Mail and reserve my vast reserves of hatred and bile for Phil Collins instead.

Can you imagine the consequences if five white lads had chased down a black and hacked him to death.Headline news on the BBC guaranteed.LBC radio , which is supposed to base it news mainly in London, had barely mentioned this appalling murder.As with the Luke Fitgerald murder i phoned the station and spoke to a news editior.Unbelievably i was told on the day of the murder it was a "busy" news day and they have to prioritise.

The 'Stephen Lawrence' thing has become an industry, many making a good living from it.
Politically I'm pretty much to the far right of centre however I can't really see the connection between the two cases.The Lawrence murder was a watershed for both racism and the corruption of the Met in this country and as far as i'm concerned it would have been better to hang the murderers and all credit to the Mail for sticking their faces on the front page and calling a spade a spade. I'd like to see all crime families banged up for life together with the plods on their payrolls.

read about this for the 1st time yesterday, it warranted a short paragraph on page 9 on a popular tabloid.A small picture of Charlie who was obviously white, no mention of the race of the 5 attackers who had chased him through Hackney.If it had been the other way round there would have been large scale riots and headline news for weeks.

10 years ago today a 15 year old boy was set on by a gang of thugs and attacked because of his race. He was systematically tortured, set on fire and eventually died. His name was Kriss Donald, but most people won't have heard of him.
There is no media storm, no special memorials and his mother won't be given a seat in the House of Lords. He is a forgotten victim - all because he was white and his attackers were Pakistanis. Don't think there's an Establishment bias? Think again! RIP Kriss Donald.

So there was in this case a similar cover up by the police to ensure the perpetrators were not brought to justice?
The cover up wasn't discovered for a few years after.

no ,there is a media silence and cover up as there is with grooming gangs .
Both deaths were horrible race hate crimes and both Kriss and Stephen deserve justice. There were differences in how the deaths were investigated and reported and it must be said that there did seem a reluctance to give full coverage to Kriss Donald's death.
