Again to add a historical perspective there were strong political groups at the heart of the political cass seemingly hell bent on free love for children in the 70's. They were even affiliated with the Labour party with many existing leading politicians even now bending over backwards distancing themselves from their actions or lack of them in the 70's. Lib Dems? Think David Steele's knowledge and appalling slihtering over fatty Cyril. And the Tories. Where do you start? At least nost of them got a penchant for it when they were buggered at school so they were also victims as well sometime as being perpetrators.

No wonder the rest of us wince a bit at the thought of one up the pipe and detest the thought of kiddy fiddling. There are probably plenty of people still out there in positions of power hoping this all dies down and wondering what the big deal is.

I have no idea if he is guilty of anything at this point and the police have to be given time to develop the case. I have two concerns with what has happened to date though. Firstly I think the public should be given an indication of the substance of the evidence that led to a judge signing a warrant to search his home, I would hate to think its simply one person making an allegation that has led to this. I tend to like the way the Americans deal with warrants for searches or arrest, they have to have a clear and measured level of evidence before an arrest or search can be made. And my second concern is why has this case not being heavily reported on the media, whilst I agree at this stage it shouldn't, I cant help thinking that because he is a Knight of the realm and a friend of the BBC that this has effected the reporting on the matter. In the other Yew tree cases there was a media scramble to report on everything and anything about the person involved, with Sir Cliff almost nothing. Where is the consistency?

1) Surely if he's not been arrested and it's just a house search, the reporting is of the search. If at some time he is arrested on suspicion of whatever, then there's a change of legal niceties releasing his name.

2) I took little interest in the actual searching. IIRC Warrants have a limited lifespan, either from issue or from execution. Therefore you would need an appropriate number of officers to do the search. Got to assume it's not some pokey little place he's got there.

3) As for them searching 'behind deckchairs', you want a proper search done don't you?

4) I think it would be very unlikely that he could be arrested, let alone charged over a single accusation for something of this nature. Get a number of allegations all citing a similar method, action or distinguishing feature and there's more chance there's something to it.

5) It doesn't matter if it's a Sir or some scrote with a part-time McJob, if serious allegations are made about them, even if historic, those allegations - unless obviously malicious or false - should be investigated.

Apparently more people have come forward, which presumably was the main point of the circus. It will be interesting to see if they support the original allegation -- which on the face of it seems unlikely, since you'd have thought Cliff would be too busy being starstruck by Billy Graham, although unlike Rolf, at least he can be placed at the scene -- or allege different incidents going back over the years, which would indicate a pattern.

The pop star is accused of abuse dating back several decades. Police are examining a number of witness statements alleging historical sex assaults by him, it was claimed yesterday.

The musician, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is said to be petrified of being arrested by detectives and has recently held a number of frantic meetings with his lawyers.

Yesterday a source close to the inquiry said: ‘This is huge, and detectives are examining more than one witness statement. The alleged victim was very young at the time, which makes it a more serious allegation. This inquiry is not going to go away, and police will make arrests when they feel they have enough to do so.’

Report Ramruma August 19, 2014 1:28 PM BST
@A_T re Daily Mail report from February.

All good stuff but surely this bit would apply to an innocent person falsely accused at least as much as a guilty one: petrified of being arrested by detectives and has recently held a number of frantic meetings with his lawyers.

More interestingly, the first and third paragraphs do not tie up: in the third paragraph, the unnamed police or CPS source appears to be saying there is more than one witness to a single incident, rather than there having been lots of different incidents as the first paragraph implies.
