5 numbers up and you give them a tenner. Seems fair and teaches you not to be greedy.

This can't be right at all if you are guaranteed 25 notes for 3 numbers, then those with 4 numbers must also be counted as they obviously have the required 3 numbers.

This could kill off the lottery once and for all if they don't rethink the payout structure.

A couple of years ago a fixed interest investment matured so (with interest rates almost zilch) I bought shed loads of premium bonds (my name, wife, kids, grandchildren) ... veiled I am rich and successful at Betfair & Bdaq point ... thinking I might, just might, win a biggie (maybe £5,000 or something).  But no, every month floods of £25 prizes (well usually 10 or so).  They fixed it so that everybody at sometime wins a prize - that's socialism for you!

Last August the numbers of 'winning' Premium Bonds was greatly reduced.All were cut except the single £1M top prize.The greatest reduction was with the £50 and £100 prizes which were reduced to nearly one-third of their previous levels.The smallest reduction,of 6%,was to the £25 prize.

Should have added that my wife wanted to buy a load when she got her lump sum from her pension but the Premium Bond returns are no better than the zilch rates from the Banks and Building Societies.

That's a fair enough point.The reason that last night's prizes were so pathetic was because all of the numbers were low,with people using birth dates,or some-such.

I'm well aware that it's a 'tax on stupidity' but for me,and presumably everyone else,when you buy a ticket you're buying into a dream.

Anyway,I used to do 2 lines for each draw(same numbers),one with mostly low numbers and one with mostly high numbers.When they put the cost up to £2 I ditched the low number line,which would have returned £25 last night,in favour of the high numbers.The other day 4 numbers paid over £200 on account of most being high.Of course,if everyone else did the same we'd get a situation where a high number draw would pay £15 for 4.

I do the lottery ... birthdays primarily.  Been doing it since it began... have years married as a number (24 in 1994).  Wife daren't change it - should be now 44!
Won a few £10s, nothing else. I consider myself intelligent (not sure anybody else does) and I make my living from Betfair/Bdaq, i.e. "gambling".
But I still do the lottery with hopeless odds ... honestly I do think I'm intelligent.
