Many moons ago, a london football team was travelling down the M4 motorway by coach to Bristol for a match when another football team's bus bound for Swindon went past. As they passed the players to a man all gave the finger to those in the slower other vehicle. The trailing bus driver was hartily chiveed and encouraged to pass the offending coach whereupon the players then gave all the other players a w4nker sign. Within a good half hour travelling  at speeds well over the speed limit,  the original offenders having finally managed to take over the leading bus again all took their pants down and mooned at the other bus. In the outside lane just approaching the Swindon exit the Bristol bound boys overtook the Swindon bus with several players standing up naked with their appendages delicately placed somewhat close to various teammates open mouths. At this point being a passenger I felt this had to stop because if anyone else happened to see it we were clearly bringing the game into disrepute . I feel the same about Luis Suarez now.

Strange game, football.

Bring a player down with a dirty tackle and break his leg, get red-carded, and it's forgotten about in 5 minutes.

Allegedly give a black player racist abuse and all hell breaks loose. Get taken to the High Court and found not guilty of racism.  The British legal system wasn't good for the F.A though. They had their own hearing and declared that John Terry was a racist.

This wasn't a 'bumped into me' foul. Suarez plainly bit this player on the shoulder, and his captain said on television 'It was nothing.'

Also shocked that the referee didn't do anything either. What if the player had got up and nutted Suarez, breaking his nose, would that have been 'nothing' as well?

I think players should ne alowed to carry machetes in future matches, but if you use it more than twice, you get a yellow card.

Can understand why he has not shown any public remorse for the latest incident. Its similar to Maradonna not owning up to the hand of god goal until years later. I can only imagine some people are brought up with different values to what is acceptable in sport.

Now that his punishment has been handed out I would hope he will show remorse for his actions which are unacceptable. But a little perspective here. He has plenty of practise at doing what he did a few days ago. If he really wanted to bite someone in a more violent way he would have.

When he loses control he has the mind of a street fighter who was brought up in rough conditions.

He does a lot of things for the less well off in Liverpool outside of football. He is a great player and he is not a bad person.

In reply to bigmo, the absence of premeditation does not make what Suarez done right nor should it mean he should escape punishment. That he should miss the rest of the world cup was inevitable and fair. The length of the punishment is not even what I am arguing about. His punishment is feeling guilty about letting down his country. Its a very severe punishment but I would not argue it was the right one.

I don't believe he had any self control over his actions for the split second he committed the offence. In that sense it was not premediatated where he had longer to think about something and use his self control. His self control was absent.

He was not in his right mind at the time. For those few seconds. I am not saying he is insane but for a few seconds he had no control over his mind and so it was an illness.

I think the nature of football at both club and international level means he will have little sympathy outside of Uruguay and Liverppol. But he never killed anyone. No one was even hurt.

I can understand the reaction of the Italian player and the Italian team during the match but afterwards and with a chance to think about things I would have had a lot of respect for the Italian player bitten if he had tried to stick up for Suarez in some way.
Suarez is not a bad person. Infact I wish more players were like him off the field.

Think I am allowed to show empathy with one of the few modern day players who lives up to the tag of being great and someone who is wonderful off the pitch.
