Haven't had one of these for a while and usually a laugh. Kicking things off with:

One of my mum's friends is Leo Sayer's aunty.
My cousin's father-in-law was a very visible extra in the Tony Hancock film The Rebel
My best friend is a direct descendant of the famous (well he is in France), French privateer Robert Surcouf

Windor racecourse seems to be the racecourse of choice for TV and film scenes. I guess that's due to its close proximity to west London and being cheaper than Ascot or Kempton

Also the old grandstand at Windsor  looks Edwardian, there was nothing at Epsom that is probably older than 30 years old !

My Grandfather worked in a hospital where Roy Dwight went for rehabilitation after breaking a leg in the 1959 Cup final. He obtained his autograph for me but not being a Forest supporter, I eventually gave it to my nephew. Roy Dwight was the cousin of the well known singer songwriter Reginald Kenneth Dwight.

At Donington  the commentators box is at the top of a steep narrow winding staircase. I was on my way up and at halfway met Richard Branson who was coming down. I stopped and froze for a split second on seeing who it was, and before I could even mumble anything, he backtracked up the stairs to let me pass. I just said cheers to him and that was that.

Was having a drink one evening circa 1990 in a hotel bar in Bracknell and noticed several middle-aged men in suits who didn't look like accountants or sales reps. There was also a woman in a wedding dress. I think Ronnie was back at nearby Broadmoor.

I was a window cleaner at the time and my customers included the bloke who played Mother in the Avengers, gerald Seymour who was then an ITN reporter. Leslie Crowther and Phil Lynott and a pop singer called Twinkle.Years later i lived in Brighton and once on the train on the way home an inebriated Dora bryan gave me her bacon sandwich. My personal "Pete Best" moment....in the early 80s my band came to the attention of Simon Fuller. He took a liking to us and offered us a contract for him to manage us. At the time he was in the business but not well known as a manager, he was just starting to move in that direction. We rejected his offer and turned him down, we didn't think he had it in him to take us to the next level.  A year later my career in the music business was over for ever and I was on the dole, while Simon Fuller went on to build a personal fortune of hundreds of millions of pounds managing bands and various celebs and was named by Billboard as "the most successful British music manager of all time".

No, B-B. Otherwise it wouldn't be a tenuous claim to fame.

Bolan owned loads of cars, despite never learning to drive. (His bird was driving the Mini in which he died.) My ex's dad was a welder, living in Staines at the time, whose hobby was building stock cars, which is how he came to be involved in fixing one of the vehicles Bolan acquired.

Thinking about it, there's not much I have in common with the Twentieth Century Boy, except that I've also owned plenty of cars without ever having learned to drive them. In my case they all seem to have ended up in the hands of the ex-girlfriends who drove them.Sad At least none of them used the vehicles to wrap me around a tree.

One of my favourite tenuous claims to fame..
My mate was a pro snooker player, and he was playing in the Welsh Open tournament in newport one year.
We had arranged that I would pick up his wife and go to the venue on the evening he was playing his match, she was
working during the day, and he was at the venue practising etc.
When we got there we went into the players and 'celebs' lounge (of course lol)
Whilst his match was on, I was having a few free drinks, generally looking around, players like Doug Mountjoy,
Steve Davies, Ray Reardon (although I think he had retired by then?) were there as well.
There was a small tv monitor on a table at the side of the lounge, and it was showing the match my mate was playing in.
There were three empty chairs in front, and I went and sat in the middle one.
A few minutes later two other people sat either side of me.
The spookiest thing ever happened next.
They started talking to each other, and I instantly recognised the voices.
On my left was Whispering Ted Lowe, on my right Clive Everton.
Now, having heard these two speak on tv for so many years, it was surreal to hear the same voices up close and personal.
I had a good chat with both of them, and they were perfect gentlemen for the rest of the evening.

About 20 years ago I organised , in conjuction with Loot, a free ads newspaper, what was supposed to be the biggest car boot sale in the world.Proceeds to Princes Trust. For some reason our guest of honour was a TV Gladiator called Jet and when she appeared there was a bit of pandemonium around the marquee where she was to sign autographs. I had to call Claire Short (Labour party bigwig) back and she was very forthright with me 'not to interrupt her soiree.' Her words, not mine. I was shocked as didn't think she went in for posh get togethers.
