List of 'bands' who were popular among 14yo girls...
The Beatles Bay City Rollers Haircut 100 Take That Boyzone East 17 Busted Westlife McFly Fast Food Rockers The Beatles did manage a couple of decent albums tbf. |

That was a splendid 2 hour Beatle's tribute programme on ITV last night with the likes of Jeff Lynne, Joe Walsh and Stevie Wonder.
|
|
By:
I agree with Do wah Diddy. Their enjoyable stuff all came before McCartney's death in 1966. You only have to listen to what the lookalike who replaced him has churned out since to realize that.
Batman and Robin are on the case: ![]() |

Whether you like them or not, the Beatles were groundbreaking
|
|
By:
of course they were groundbreaking & still the best selling band to this day & i do like a few of their tunes , but was watching that tribute programme last night & just burst out laughing almost spitting my beer out watching them all swaying about singing nice & slowly ' Wee Alll live in a Yelllooww Submarine'
![]() I just compare them to other bands of their era (Led zep etc) and also bands of recent era's & they were nothing spectacular imo The scene did seem good fun back then though so i agree with 'you had to be there to appreciate them' |

who do you like then musically tim?

Anything from Euphoric Trance to Gospel, to Opera etc. so it`s not a problem with their music, as such, more a case of being fed up having them shoved down my throat all of my life. Usually by those who `were there` and who want the rest of the world to bow at the altar of THEIR youth. Those who, 50 tears later, are still listening to them, still proclaiming them to be genius, desperately wanting the rest of the world to recognise their superiority. All it really is, is an attempt by those who were there to maintain their own hugely-misplaced sense of superiority. They also seem to feel that this makes them appear `hip` and `with it`! Even though most of them are in their sixties and seventies! I have discovered that there is a world of music out there: why oh why would anyone want to listen to the same three minutes of music forever and ever? Get out of HMV`s `Popular` section, stop buying yet another compilation of the same tracks from the local petrol station. Do we watch the same tv programmes over and over? Do we not look for something new, after a few viewings? Imagine watching the same tv programme from the sixties: would you want to watch that ad infinitum? Of course not, because it`s 50-year old tosh, and you`d be bored pretty sharpish. Yet people do this with the Beatles, and demand that we do too. Their offerings were no better or worse than many other groups of the time, yet we are still, 50 years on, asked to believe that they were the Second Coming? Ridiculous. |
|
By:
i hear what you are saying tim but really their music speaks for its self, where you are missing the point,is that without the beatles you wouldnt be listening to the music that you love because those guys changed music forever. that last comment is plain silly though as their were so far above the other group you wouldnt believe, and you dont believe it lol,but im afaid you would have to live though those times to know
|

The point is music has a time and place, it would be fair should we consider classical music
to have reached it peak with Mozart, Beethoven, etc in the 1800s. We still listen to this music and appreciate its greatness. The two new art forms of the 20 century were both American, Jazz and Rock music. These also had their time and that is why performers like Louis Armstrong and the great rock groups of the time are better than now...just as Mozart is greater than anything now. |

It is a form of arrogance to think that because something happened 50 years ago it
can not be the best. The simple fact is nobody in England is capable of writing a song anymore. |
