He's aged well. Lucky man.
Always liked the group and loved Doo Wah Diddy Diddy. Always cheered me up. |
By:
He's a lovely chap. Saw him in Ilkley with his blues band a few years back. Perfectly happy to have his photograph taken with me.
Could have been the frontman for The Stones. Brian Jones wanted him. |
By:
recorded some great catchy pop songs. Ha Ha Said The Clown and Pretty Flamingo being another 2 favourites.

He wasn't the singer on Ha Ha, tmm. That was Mike D'Abo, his replacement.
Groupie, lol,I thought that was a girlie thing. |
By:
Seen many bands over the years, can't beat a good gig, or concert as I tend to call them now.

Sinatra concert at Ibrox was one of the best (popular music) I`ve attended. Great night
![]() I know he was probably past his best then, but I knew it would probably be the last chance to see the great man LIVE and he didn`t disappoint. Legend. |
By:
wow, that must have been some night, obviously way past his best as you said.
By:
Then onto the Bradford dance hall afterwards no doubt Kenny to do the The Twist with some Joanna Lumley lookalike sort I shouldn't wonder

Sure was kenny, 1990 and it seems like yesterday. Opened up with Come Fly With Me and ended with The Lady Is A Tramp if my memory is correct, despite the bevvy that night. He was still brilliant but obviously past his peak. Terrific memories.

What is your favourite concert attended?
By:
Great joke Slippy, and totally unexpected.
tmm, I would say a free gig at Jenkin's Bar, Blackpool, circa '76 when I saw Kindness, a Bradford group who I'd followed since I was a youngster. They shortly afterwards changed there name to Smokie, I think you might remember them. A superb band live. |
By:
Twist before my time Slippy.

I remember Smokie, a very good band and much underrated. Did they not get a top 3 hit with "Living Next Door To Alice"? Didn`t realise they were a Bradford band. Where are they now? Are they still performing?
By:
Well one of them still is tmm in the group Smokie who are very popular abroad. The lead singer who is still doing the odd gig if you look on youtube. Not sure about the other 2. I first saw them at a WMC in about '68 when they were called The Elizabethans. Always pulled in a big crowd wherever they appeared. They were extremely talented.
By:
Alice was their song, yep, later recorded by Chubby Brown as who the feck is Alice.
By:
D'Abo a better singer imo
By:
then or now coach?
By:
then terence ...no idea what he sounds like now ,only going by the M/M back collection .
By:
saw them a few months ago with PP Arnold, great night, paul and mike are very different singers, both still very good so I couldn't say who was?is the best, maybe you liked the later stuff with mike singing?
By:

And I live in the back ... of the Greta Garbo home for wayward boys and girls ![]() |

I was in New York at the time of what must have been the same Sinatra tour. Were there for the weekend and just happened to be walking past Radio City Music Hall and his name was on the billboard - 'on stage tonight'. It said 'rescheduled show' or similar.
Walked up to the box office and casually enquired if tickets were available. Yes! So we bought some. He was supported by Shirley McLaine. I always thought it had been rescheduled due to illness, but in googling now, it seems it was because Sammy David Jr had died |

By:
I thought and still do that Blinded By Light is an absolute belter.
By:
different song,a 1966 hit
By:
He seems to have looked after himself.
I wonder if he would have looked so good if he'd joined the Stones with all the distractions? They look like walking corpses. They should rename themselves The Rolling Tomb Stones. Stroll on. |
By:
the Stones are the ultimate Coffin Dodgers
By:
They're not known as the Strollin' Bones for nothing, Coach.
Thx Terry, I thought it would be different. |

Old thread. He's nearly 76 now, and still touring.

It's remarkable how people like P. Jones seem to go on forever.
While the nine to five brigade can't wait to retire in front of the telly and eat themselves into an early grave. It must be down to the stark contrast between the colourful lives they lead, and the boring lives ordinary people have to put up with. |
By:
Check out Paul Jones's completely weird "I've gone psychedelic and sound like early Bowie' album 'Crucifix in a Horseshoe' from around 1971.

Crippen yes ,there's a world of difference between going to work for money and doing something you love .
Unless you're lucky enough to enjoy your work . never be a slave to money |
