Remember its not the quiz itself that is important its the audition, if you screw this up you do not make the TV studios. Ok firstly I have no idea how clever you are but whatever you do do not come over as a clever d!ck. Secondly have an amusing anecdote to tell the researchers as they will more than likely get you to stand up in front of the other auditionees & talk about yourself for a minute or so, this will more than likely be filmed, your be nervous especially if its your first ever audition, speak clearly & smile a lot, look confident & my guess is your be ok.

I'm pretty OK at quizzes and have appeared on TV many years ago. I agree with you on the anecdote. The audition is the difficult bit.
And the chances are that fool proof is right also.

No none, your go for 30k & get knocked out & the 19 year old student will go for minus 3k because she is happy to take a share of the other two's 12k they have accumulated, never go for the higher amount as some scumbag will shaft you once you have done the hard work.

1. Make sure you have an early audition. Dont have one in the late afternoon as people dont turn up and those responsible for picking contestants cant be arsed or already have their list done.
2. They asked me to spend 2 minutes talking about myself in front of a camera so prepare a couple of anecdotes or stories. Why I wanted to be on the show , something that is funny/amusing , describe what youve done with your life like your favourite trip , holiday experience etc.
3. You are in groups of up to 10 so there should be lots of interaction

Doesn't answer the OP's question, but I went for an audition last week for the new series of 15-1
About a dozen people per audition, although we bumped into the next lot towards the end. The majority seemed to split into two distinct group. Firstly were the pro-quizzers who all knew each other and knew pretty much everything (Brain of Britain, Mastermind, World Quiz Champs...that sort of thing). The other group were the sort who went for shows such as Weakest Link, National Lottery In it to Win it etc); a thicker bunch of halfwits I've yet to encounter.
Both groups seemed to know the format for the interviews, and had a load of anecdotes ready for the bit we all had to do to camera, why they wanted to be on the show, what they'd spend the money on etc.
The lad from the production company acknowledged that some quiz shows don't want the cleverest people, but in this instance we should all try to get all the sample questions right as far as possible, and not "tactically" get a few wrong. They gave us a sheet of 30 questions and they were feckin hard. Normally I'd expect to get c.25/30 but reckon I got between 15-20. Woman on one side of me reckon she got three or four, but the pro-quizzer guy the other side (who'd once been pipped to the world quiz title by Kevin from Eggheads), reckoned he got 29!!
Won't find out if I'm on until the end of the month, although I was one the show back in 1996 when I got to the last three, but was beaten by a housewife from the Isle of Wight

It was a bit of a disaster. Id never applied to a show before but I like the Chase and decided to give it a go as something I wanted to do on my 2013 bucketlist. I got the application form filled it out and when I got to the audition they told me that 20,000 had applied and only 500 around the country were picked so that part is hard enough.
I went to a hotel in London and they had run 1 hour auditions since 9am on this particular Sunday and my one wasnt until 4pm.
Every audition had at least 7 of the 10 people show up , my one had only me and two others - a large woman from Birmingham and a fisherman from Jersey.
Im not a very confident person when speaking in front of people but I had practised a few stories and anecdotes and got some help off this forum from some of the quiz experts.
First we had a chat in a room about the application forms just to settle us in and talked about TV programes that were popular etc etc. The Jersey guy had his form sent in by his wife and he knew nothing about it till he got the call. You had to laugh because his wife had put things on the form like "can be stubborn in his ways and a bit difficult!". I started thinking that maybe this was a clever ploy to get through the selection process but subsequent events with this guy blew that theory out of the water.
After that we all went into a room where there were 4 people assessing us. Three behind a desk asking questions and another guy flitting between a camera and the desk. We did a quick quiz of 20 questions played to us on a tape. Then we had to stand in front of a camera and talk about ourselves for 2 minutes. The brummy was a disaster , she got as far as "my name is ... I live in Birmingham and have a 3 year old son called Calum..err...err....Ive always wanted to be on the Chase ...er...er..'laugh' Im sorry I cant think of anything else" .The interviewers did help out with prompting like "have you been on holiday recently?" "whats your favourite place". She then said "I went swimming last year in the Caribbean with Sharks and Dolphins". To which the Jersey guy said "what? at the same time" which for some reason made me laugh out loud and that set the interviewers off as well because I couldnt stop. It helped break the ice for me though and I was suddenly a lot more relaxed.
The fishermen talked for 2 minutes non stop about his boat and how fast it was. Talked about the knots it did and how choppy the water gets when he goes to France. It was very bizarre.
We then did one of those Pyramid games which was a disaster. They gave you cards and a subject was on it like "states of the USA". You had 30 seconds to get through as many as possible so you had to give examples and hope the other two guessed what was on the card. "Arizona , Texas , New York" blah blah blah.
I had to guess the brummy and it goes like this :
"Your time starts..now !!"
"oh oh oh ...err.... Vienna is one....er.....and ...er. Rome is another..."
"european capitals ?"
"no no , and that place with the tower ...um...um..."
"PARIS ?? cities on a river ??"
"no"
"cities with famous museums ?"
"nope"
"Opera houses ?? football teams ?? Art Galleries ??"
"no , no , whats that other one , it has a staute in it or is it a fountain? ?"
"BUZZZZ time up"
and the answer was ??
"Italian cities"
"Italian cities ??? you said Vienna ?"
"oh sorry I meant Venice !! and that place with the tower that leans over"
Wallis - 0 points...
I coasted through the quiz parts and when it was over we had to wait for 5 minutes before knowing if we were on. None of us got in and the organiser took me to one side and said they would have put me on but they already have enough or they would have took me and also next time to come early as later ones tend to have less people.
I was pretty gutted as I didnt hold out much hope on the way there but once I was into it I realised I had just as good a chance as anyone and if I was in a bigger group with better banter I might have made it.
Good Luck (sorry its long winded..)

Great write up there, do NOT wait to be ask for the next series imo, wait about six months & apply again your find all the researchers will be different next time, also if & when you get another audition for any show try & make sure you try to get an earlier audition, not just for the reasons you have stated but also the researchers have also had enough to a certain extent & may not look on you so favorably as if you did the audition a few hours earlier.

Its OK to let a dim student take a minus amount,i suspect the chasers [ especially the sinnerman and the barrister]hate the team having a four point start on them.

1. if you are unsure of the answer, instead of passing, say "Winston Churchill", you may get lucky. 2. remember to haggle with the Chaser, if you are persistent he will give you an extra few thousand. 3. wear a short skirt. 4. if unsure in the multi choice round, try pushing all three buttons at once. 5. prepare an anecdote about how you met Rolf Harris when you were a young boy.

Going on these shows could ruin your life if you do something embarrassing. Many years ago there was a show called Name that Tune. The quiz master was Jackie Rae and the resident singer was a girl named Marion Ryan. A bloke from our factory went on and was doing quite well. The final part of the quiz was a word game in which you had to guess the name of a song from a load of words on a magnetic board. Once you assemble the correct answer you had to run to the front of the stage and press a buzzer which was on a wooden stand. Speed was of the essence and was used to decide the final winner. Anyway our mate got the name of the song and raced back to the buzzer. As he pushed it he knocked the stand over and went head first off the stage into the audience. Fortunately he wasn't hurt but his pride was. He got stick for years and people would point him out wherever he went around the factory which he had to do everyday as a maintenance fitter. Hopefully he learnt to laugh at about it but he really did take some stick.
I imagine the worst nightmare on The Chase would be giving an incredibly stupid answer causing Bradley to double up with laughter.

Went to Cambridge for the audition yesterday. There were seven in our group at 2.45. That seemed to be the number as there were seven waiting for the next audition after we were finished.
The audition was run by four young people, 1 male 3 female. Our group consisted of 4 women (a 30sh civil servant, 68 year old retired, two in their 50s). The three blokes were a 20 year old student, the other was in his thirties and me.
We started off with a sheet of paper and 20 questions were played quickly on an audio system. After the answers were collected, each person in turn got some cards to read out clues to the others for a minute. These varied in difficulty but everybody scored either 5, 6, or 7.
We then had to minutes to talk a little about ourselves. A couple were amusing and two were so boring the girl had to stop them. After that we were given three little cards with A, B and C on them and asked 4 multiple choice questions.
One was: With which country would you associate Halloumi cheese? Cyprus, Malta or Lebanon. We had to hold our cards up and they went round each in turn asking why you chose your answer.
After that, there were 20 more questions as per 1st round. We never got the results of both sets of questions. I would guess I got about 12 correct of the first set and a few more on the second set which were easier. After they collected the answers we were taken to another room and after 15 minutes the chap came in and told us we had all been shortlisted and would be sent a questionnaire in a few days. Based on the questionnaire plus what we had done on the day they would then decide who was going to appear on the show.
They did film our two minutes about ourselves and said the producers would watch that to see if we were suitable for TV.

I applied to go on The Chase about a year ago, had a reply shortly after saying I was on the list for an audition. Haven't heard from them since.... sounds like a tricky audition anyway!

Someone I used to work with passed the audition but then they didn't do the show for the best part of a year. I saw him a few months back and he'd done the show in the summer (he showed me a picture of the hefty cheque he won) but the show hadn't been on TV yet at that point. Don't watch it myself
