chit chaters;just looking for a bit of advise. the wife was out walking our husky(on his lead) this morning around the streets, when an akita has come out of nowhere and started attacking him, teeth around the throat, and quite literaly looking to damage.luckily after kicking screaming, and a lot of effort my wife has managed to get him to safety.straight to the vets, and after a small examination, his heavy coat seems to have saved him.Ive been round to see the owners who said sorry etc but someone had opened there gate, they are lying through there back teeth, been to look at the gate, and the surrounding fence is halfway down ,broken with large gaps etc where the dog has escaped easily.as my wife works at a vets we know this dog has attacked other dogs in the past.rang the police, because the dog has not attacked a human, the answer is sorry not interested.my worry here is there are a lot of children in the area, what would you do next ???????????
surley the owners should at least be spoken to by some authority, like I said police not interested, who is apart from me,or will a tragic accident have to happen before someone takes notice.repairing the fence is a must surely.

You are right to be concerned about this. I was bitten by a small dog a month ago the attitude of the owner was to deny it. Not serious in my case but next time it could be a child.

as usual no one cares no one takes responsiblity, no one is responsible

My friend has an akita that is the nicest dog I have ever come across...in the case of the dog in the OP maybe the problem lies with the owners as opposed to the dog...some people aren't fit to have a goldfish let alone a dog.

I think it should definitely be a matter for the Police and suggest you write to the Chief Constable giving all relevant circumstances and advising that local plod weren't interested. Perhaps they were too busy looking to see who had been offended on "Twitter".

the bad Akita should be made to attend a course in good dog behaviours.if it still doesnt comply it should be made to do community hours..guide dog duties or maybe drug detection or chasing criminals?

^^let me clarify. Your dog is like a member of your family. If a memeber of family get's attacked - you defend.
It's not a case of dog on dog! (as some dumb owners assume!)

Arent akitas the ones that fight bears in Japan? Absolutely mental to let a dog like that roam loose in a neighbourhood. Should give the owners a year in prison just for allowing it to do that. If it attacked a human the owners should be put on trial for GBH, minimum 5 years,if it killed a person should be on trial for manslaughter, minimum 15 years.

just a small update guys, been round to see the owners and I was fuming, they own a pub, very arrogant pair, voiced my concerns very strongly,in fact would of smacked one of them if he had my side of the bar.my big big issue is why haven't they secured the back yard the dog was in.anyhow wife going around with vets bill today(vet says his coat has saved his life ,a small dog would not have survived.)I personally now view this dog as dangerous.I will be ringing the licensing authority, dog warden and police today to hear there views, also been round to take 19 photos of the said fence and gate.Do I think this dog is capable of attacking a child yes I do and will do everthing in my power to make sure it doesn't happen.also found out this dog has attacked another dog before.

Vodka ,ring you MP and complain to him/her that the police were not interested and ask him/her to follow it up with plod .I know it sounds like a waste of time but i have used my MP in the past and they may get something done.Plod wont like a MP sniffing about.

So reminds me of what happened to our labby a couple of years ago when he was attacked whilst on his lead by a couple of huskies who were not. Cost me £100+ to have him stitched back together. I knew where the owner lived so went to talk to him about it. His response was that he'd trained his dogs to kill and he pushed me over as a result of which I cracked my head open. Went to the police the next day. They were very keen to help until I mentioned the man's name when they changed their tune completely - my word against his etc. Turns out he has a record as long as your arm for violent offences which I didn't know beforehand. Went to the dog warden - not her job. Went to the RSPCA - not their job. Wrote to my MP and for my trouble received what could only be interpreted as a threatening visit from two local junior plods who made it quite clear they were not impressed that I had written to my MP. The attacks still go on - the latest of many only a few weeks ago when plod's response to that particular complainant was that was the first complaint they had received about those dogs and they couldn't take any action based on one complaint. That's the UK today for you.
