Losing the first frame is an old favourite of the fixers; it's been going on for donkey's years. I fondly recall two professional players both trying to lose the opener during a Tolly Cobbold Classic in 1983. How we all laughed.
This post will self-destruct in five minutes. |

I just about remember the match Silvino Franciasco fixed a good few years ago. They tried to place bets in my local bookmakers which is in Ireland but they were not taken. From what I remember the fix was for a 5-0 scoreline but the guy Fransciso was playing was so poor it stuck out a mile. Not sure how you would hope to get away with a fix in this day and age when there is so much traceability.

2008 UK Championship: Agreed to lose the first frame in matches against Stephen Hendry and Mark King.
How do you even get caught when it's so simple to lose one frame ![]() Stephen Lee's a dopey **** at the best of times his trousers don't even fit him How the hell is he even No.8 in the World God only knows !! |

The ugly face of snooker

Didn`t Mark King have gambling problems in 2008? it must have been tempting for him to get involved but fair play to him if he turned it all down. By all accounts he was approached by shady characters.
|
|
By:
No, just checked again that King had controlled his demons well before 2008, it makes you wonder how many players are approached to get involved with skullduggery.
|
|
By:
Yep fair play to Mark King if he's not involved .. he actually became a much better player too since that Angel

Used to meet KIng in the local betting shop in Ilford - best betting shop ever. Fkng nutter back then but nice bloke. King also had a few home troubles with his Ma and that. Anyway...

I'd be almost certain that when Davis and Hendry were in their pomp and used to go clear on telly matches, they were asked to ease up a bit as they would finish too early. Not bent then but just making it appear more competitive.

One thing that stands out here is:
"It was judged that bets were placed on Lee’s matches by three groups of people: a then sponsor, his former manager and another associate. The total bets placed were in excess of £11,000, leading to winnings of £97,000" Now surely if he'd tried to actually win the matches in question he'd have won more than 97k? |
|
By:
and he'd certainly win more than 97k during the time he's about to be banned for
|
|
By:
Im not sure they are his bets, he was on a %, so its even less
|
|
By:
Perhaps ther is more that they got away with.
He had got to the point where he would struggle to beat anyone and the betting was guaranteed turnover. The Malt Cup is shyte money and he was unlikely to win the other matches as he was a sweaty bottler. |

Do watch the McManus v Drago match a few months ago. Wasn't bent I don't think but very very funny

Biscuit1979 and he'd certainly win more than 97k during the time he's about to be banned for This is Stephen 'Burger King' Lee we're talking about here ![]() |
|
By:
Well i can't claim to follow snooker that keenly but he was a top 16 player wasn't he and his wiki page says he's made over £2m in prize money so quite why he needed to do this to make himself a comparatively tiny sum is a bit odd.
|
|
By:
Yep true i never understand them .. Higgins shoulda been STRUNG UP but Stephen Lee's no worldbeater although ranked No.8 in the World i haven't got a Clue How !
There aren't that many big tournaments in a snooker season though & when you think the World Championship only pays 250k to the winner it's bits & bobs a player like him makes unless he gets lucky |

Ronnie has sais there are more cheats.
Hearn has told Ronnie to cough up the names or he will face disrepute charges ![]() Barry Hearn`s son Eddie promoted the Burn`s fight the other week, who is looking into that. As bent as bent can be the whole lot of them. |

I read the Ronnie thing. I think he put it it out on Twitter.
I reckon it's rife. Something that would help imo would be to stop betting on things like next frame, first throw-in (football) and the like |
|
By:
Yes they will give Ronnie a six Month ban for that, free to play from April though

|
By:

He's made £100k a year for over 20 years and that's excluding sponsorship deals. I'll take some of those bits & bobs if there are any going spare ![]() |
|
By:
£100k with a tax deduction Johnny.
Lee is obviously a lazy coont and it seems he wanted more cream on his cake. |

I just never thought that greed would be his downfall. He really didn't seem the type

I can't see Ronnie ever getting a ban. He's one of the most exciting people in the game and I think that'll affect people's decisions???
I'd like to see Ding get banned for being such a miserable bastard! |
|
By:
He's been asked to name names or apologise
|
|
By:
An opology will not cut it Nick.
Hearn wants names. There are 3 outcomes here. 1. Ronnie gives names. ( massive waves in the world of snooker ) 2. Ronnie refuses - he will be banned. 3. He admits he is not sure who it is but someone said it was but he has forgotten who that person was. ![]() |

Ronnie O'Sullivan @ronnieo147 17h
I suppose I could always go back to workin on the farm if world snooker wanna ban me |
|
By:
Ronnies a superb snooker player but lets face it a bit of a ****.Says he wants to keep a low profile but has to make comments like this to grab attention.imo he will have no more idea than anyone else who has been at it,but now hes been told to name names will be clueless.

I don't know about you guys but I like characters. If they create controversy that's great with me! Mark Allen is currently my favourite player cos he speaks his mind and has actually got something about him, unlike a lot of other dull players.
I want players to be aware that the audience has payed to see them so give them some kinda entertainment. Smile ffs at least!!! If more players were like Ronnie, I think the sport would be more popular??? |

Hearn is upset cos the truth is out
