There was a great thread on this on footy forum years ago.  Was quite comforting that there were a number of people who did that tennis balls(or lasers) fired from the eyes thing to help them escape from the room.

I count my steps....if I go upstairs for something I count the number of steps it takes me...but don't ask me how many steps are on my staircase as I couldn't tell you without actually counting them. As a landscaper I cut a lot of grass...we do a load of properties throughout the week all through the summer...right now it's boiling hot and I could pretty much get away without trimming the edges at all but I still walk round every property religiously looking for that one blade of grass that is sticking up more than the rest.

I don't count steps but if I am walking on a footpath with cracks in it, I try to walk on 1 crack, then 2 steps off crack, 3 on etc etc, I guess it might look amusing to onlookers Crazy

I try to walk on as many cracks as possible, unlike the traditional OCD of avoiding cracks.  Oh and I count them too, like any normal thinking person.

I take my house keys from my pocket long before I reach my door, sometimes I will carry them for a hundred yards or more.

I'm not superstitious, I was born on Friday 13th FFS, but without fail I will always set an alarm clock so that the individual digits add up to 12 (my "lucky" number)! 30+ years and counting... Crazy

I also have a "compulsion" to drink every beer in the fridge before I can/will sleep!
Not sure that this is OCD behaviour or plain common sense to be fair, but I no longer buy in bulk!

I like numbers to add up to 7 when reduced to a single digit. Best is the alarm clock. It's set for 7:18 (7+1+8 = 16 then 1+6 = 7) but pressing the snooze button makes it go off again 9 minutes later at 7:27 which also adds up to 7 and so on until the hour changes. Brilliant BlushWhoops

I was thinking about this while reading other posts and I thought I was OCD free, but I remembered something that I did - though I can't remember doing this recently. I used to hear a few words or a whole sentence, whether in conversation or on tv etc I would then add the amount of letters in my head. Then for eg if the total came to 23 letters I would pretend to 'write' 23 with my left shoulder and with my right shoulder I would 'write' 7 - because they all had to total an even number like 20, 30 etc, 24 wouldn't do apparently lol. Fk me now I have typed that out I think I might be a bit nuts. CryLaugh

I'm the same with notes, that is quite a common trait though I would have thought. Mobile and keys in right pocket, wallet and shrapnel in the left.

The volume on the TV must never be set at 13. Ideally only even numbers should be used, though for some reason 11 is acceptable. I get a little twitchy on the rare occasions Mrs C is in charge of the remote as she tends to have a cavalier attitude to setting the volume, despite being fully aware of the rules.Laugh

the only OCD I seem to exhibit is with shirts.
I have to fasten the second, sixth and seventh buttons, leaving a middle three that can be tied in order downwards (3rd, 4th then 5th).
Any other buttons, ie the top one or an eighth can then be tied randomly after a pause of a few seconds.

I've done this ever since I can remember but it's been picked up by only one observant female.

I think people are mistaking OCD for quirkiness. OCD is a serious thing, where if the person doesn't obey the compulsion they'll feel actual physical pain, a horrible sensation of ''the world being in disorder'', stuff like that. I know, because I have it with certain things, and it is very upsetting to try and fight the compulsion.

One ''quirky'' thing I do is when is when I'm inputting my stake on here and the liability comes out to a certain number which feels unlucky, like maybe 6.66 or something Laugh But I could leave it at that and it wouldn't bother me, whereas if it were OCD, it would be very upsetting to leave it like that, I think that's the difference.

Cutlery must be all lying the same way in their various compartments, after washing, towels, teatowels, underwear etc must be rotated with the clean stuff going on the bottom of the pile, towels must not hang unevenly and I cannot abide a loo roll with the leading edge at the back, it must be at the front.

Yeah, sorry. I have this bad habit of thinking I know it all, when the truth is I'm no expert on OCD. I am trying to beat that habit though Happy

A better way to have put it would have been to say that my OCD can be quite distressing. I have this sort of perfectionist OCD. Started when I was a teenager, had to have my Playstation perfectly clean, and all the game cases in pristine condition. Moved on to my VHS collection of a TV show, perfect boxes and picture quality, to the extent I'd watch through all the episodes as soon as I bought them to make sure everything was fine.

As I've grown up and my stress levels have receeded and I've become more informed about OCD it's gotten a lot better, but it's still there, I imagine it always will be.

Found Mr Eboue's shower one interesting. That sounds like a fairly serious OCD if it made him late for work, I wonder if he got help for it? From what I've read, serious OCD isn't the sort of thing you just choose to stop doing.

I have to sit in more or less the same seat on a plane; The window seat, in the couple of rows just behind the right wing. Fully justified behavior though, as I've never been on a plane that has crashed whilst doing so.

Im the same as you with the volume, Tommycockles. It has to be on an even number, never odd. Sadly that even/odd rule extends further than the TV remote for me. When filling car with petrol, it cant stop on an odd figure like 20.01, I have to round it off to an even number. Even when placing a bet, I cant punt 53.00 or 67.00 etc etc quid, always has to be an even amount  Crazy

Golf was my downfall. All the clubs had to be in the correct separator, if they had somehow got mixed up I`d take them all out and re-position even if it was just my pw & sw in together. I`d then adjust the height of my tee three times even though the first time was correct, then line up with the driver then walk away as if something was wrong, then line up again, grip, stance, grip, stance. Then visualize it going straight down the middle 250 yards. Adjust my grip and stance then a practise swing Cry

Numbers:  Odd numbers for me, preferably primes; I always have to have the volume control set to an odd number, at the moment the default on my telly is 31, but I go to 37 and even 41 or 43 if it's a very quiet soundtrack... can't have it on anything in between  Plain

Food: Whatever the meal is, the last mouthful has to include a little bit of everything, e.g. if 'ts a roast dinner the last mouthful must contain a bit of meat, a bit of roast potato, a bit of each vegetable and some gravy. Christmas dinner provides something of a challenge in this respect  Angry
