They don't bundle it with new PCs like they used to, haven't for years.
I paid about 70 quid for the student edition, if you're using it for owt that matters, I'd shell out.

..get a cheap old copy of Word off ebay...that's what I did.
Some Microsoft office student editions can be loaded on up to 3 PC's, ask your fellow students for their disk and give them say £20.
There is also a free months trial from Microsoft of Office 365, might tide you over.

you nay be able to get open office to work in you save it as the appropriate file type. obviously without testing it on word its a bit awkward.
